摘要: The invention provides for a method for producing isotopes using a beam of particles from an accelerator, whereby the beam is maintained at between about 70 to 2000 MeV; and contacting a thorium-containing target with the particles. The medically important isotope 225Ac is produced via the nuclear reaction (p,2p6n),whereby an energetic proton causes the ejection of 2 protons and 6 neutrons from a 232Th target nucleus. Another medically important isotope 213Bi is then available as a decay product. The production of highly purified 211At is also provided.

摘要: An isotope production system, emanation generator, and process are disclosed for production of high-purity radioisotopes. In one implementation example, high-purity Pb-212 and/or Bi-212 isotopes are produced suitable for therapeutic applications. In one embodiment the process includes transporting gaseous radon-220 from a radium-224 bearing generator which provides gas-phase separation of the Rn-220 from the Ra-224 in the generator. Subsequent decay of the captured Rn-220 accumulates high-purity Pb-212 and/or Bi-212 isotopes suitable for direct therapeutic applications. Other high-purity product isotopes may also be prepared.

摘要: A process for producing substantially radio-impurity-free Bi-212 is disclosed. An acidic feed solution containing Pb-212 is contacted with an extraction medium to bind the Pb-212 thereto. The extraction medium is rinsed with a second acid solution to remove impurities therefrom, leaving a substantially impurity-free Pb-212-laden extraction medium The Pb-212 grows on the extraction medium to form Bi-212 by radioactive decay. The Bi-212 is then eluted from the extraction medium with an acid solution to form a substantially radio-impurity-free Bi-212 acid solution. An apparatus for carving out this process and a process for the therapeutic use thereof are also disclosed.

摘要: A method of treating an adsorbent for a chromatographic separation. The method involves sonicating particles of an inorganic metal oxide having fragile edges in the absence of any alkylating or acylating agent to form smoothened particles of the inorganic metal oxide and washing the smoothened particles of the inorganic metal oxide to remove fine particulate matter to produce a treated adsorbent. The treated adsorbent can be used in a method of isolating a daughter radioisotope from a daughter radioisotope that is produced from the parent radioisotope by radioactive decay.
