    摘要: There is provided a novel switch having a function of overcurrent protection. In a switch comprising a conductive movable member (9) and at least two terminals (1, 2, 3) and being switchable by mechanically moving the movable member (9) between a state in which the movable member (9) contacts with the two terminals (1, 2) simultaneously and a state in which the movable member (9) is apart from either one (1) of the two terminals (1, 2), at least one (2) of the two terminals (1, 2) is separated into a conductive contact part (2a) for contacting with the movable member (9) and a conductive connect part (2b) for being electrically connected with an external element (not shown), and a PTC member (2b) is located between the contact part (2a) and the connect part (2c). The PTC member (2b) may be a PTC element having a PTC material layer and a pair of conductive material layers each located on opposed surfaces of the PTC material layer.

    摘要: An electrical circuit interrupter includes a primary or normal current carrying path and a transient or alternative current carrying path. The normal current carrying path is established by a movable spanner extending between stationary contacts during normal operation. The transient current carrying path includes at least one variable resistance element which transitions from a lower resistance to a higher resistance during interruption. The transient current carrying path forms an open circuit in parallel with the normal current carrying path during normal operation. Upon interruption, the transient current carrying path is favored for the fault current, completely interrupting the normal current carrying path. The variable resistance elements increase their resistivity during this phase of operation to aid in providing high levels of back-EMF for complete interruption of fault current through the device and limitation of let-through energy.

    摘要: A current limiting device utilizing an electrically conductive composite material and an inhomogeneous distribution of resistance structure is disclosed. The inhomogeneous distribution is typically chosen so that at least one selected thin layer of the current limiting device has much higher resistance than the rest of the current limiting device. In the actual device, pressure is typically exerted on the composite material in a direction normal to the selected thin layer. During a short-circuit, it is believed that adiabatic resistive heating of this selected thin layer is followed by rapid thermal expansion which leads to either a partial or complete physical separation of the current limiting device at the selected thin layer which produces a higher over-all device resistance to electric current flow. Thus the current limiting device limits the flow of current through the short-circuited current path. When the short-circuit is cleared, the current limiting device regains its low resistance state allowing electrical current to flow normally. The current limiting of the present invention is reusable for many such short circuit conditions.

The heating of the resistor during currentlimiting operation increases its resistivity by about 100 times.

    摘要: A charging protection and regulation device includes a matrix of Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) devices having multiple legs each including one or more PTC devices, a matrix of diodes having multiple legs and multiple types of diodes having different voltage drops, and a matrix of resistors having multiple legs each including a current limiting resistor. Each PTC device is thermally coupled to an ambient environment using a different amount of thermal coupling. Respective legs of the matrix of PTC devices, matrix of diodes, and matrix of resistors are electrically coupled together, and coupled to one or more electron storage devices. During conditions of overload or circuit fault, the PTC devices act as high resistance circuit interrupters. During conditions of light loading between input and output terminals, the different voltage drops across the diodes provide voltage regulation/current regulation such that a specified charge voltage is provided to electron storage devices.

    摘要: In a direct current cutoff switch1, a PTC 5, which is a non-linear resistor, is parallel connected to a contact circuit composed of a fixed contact 4-2 and a movable contact 8-2 via electrodes 5-1. When the switch is closed, no current flows in the PTC 5 with a prescribed resistance value at 25° C., since voltage between both the electrodes 5-1 is almost “0”. When the switch is opened in order to cut off current, the contacts form a closed circuit since the PTC 5 is parallel inserted between the fixed contact 4-2 and the movable contact 8-2. For this reason, it is difficult for surge voltage to occur and an arc hardly occurs between both the contacts. The PTC 5 instantaneously heats due to passing current, reduces the resistance value and passes peak current. Then, the resistance value rises and becomes stable in a high value such that weak current which is negligible at 42V, which is rated voltage. Thus, current is substantially cut off.
