    摘要: An electromechanical switching system includes a first conductive portion and a second conductive portion. The first conductive portion includes a conductive stationary end and a conductive floating end, connected by a shape memory alloy (SMA). When an input stimulus current is applied to the SMA, changes in the SMA urge motion of the conductive floating end of the first conductive portion toward the second conductive portion, which in turn causes a change in the state of the electromechanical switching system. The input stimulus current may be calculated to satisfy a given response time requirement.

    摘要: A self-locking wire terminal assembly and a shape memory wire termination system includes an electrical terminal constructed with spring legs which provide two opposing points of contact on a mating electrical conductive pin. The points of contact prevent the pin from being removed. The shape memory termination system is formed by electrically coupling a clip assembly to shape memory wire and to an electrical source. In one embodiment, the shape memory wire causes an actuator to activate when the shape memory wire dissipates electrical power. The terminal assemblies may be manufactured by assembling wire with conduction pads onto a continuous reel. The terminal assemblies may be formed from the reel by trimming wire and linkages between the conduction pads.

    摘要: An actuator includes a bistable mechanism having a tension beam and a compression beam defined by a relief slit in a flexible substrate; and a first shape memory element that upon heating actuates the actuator from a first position to a second position. A heat source can be thermally coupled to actuate the first shape memory element, or the first shape memory element can be heated by passing current through the element. The actuators can be formed in an array. Such arrays can be useful for tactile displays, massagers, and the like. Also included are methods of operation and manufacturing.

    摘要: Mechanical devices having bistable positions are utilized to form switches and memory devices. The devices are actuatable to different positions and may be coupled to a transistor device in various configurations to provide memory devices. Actuation mechanisms include electrostatic methods and heat. In one form, the mechanical device forms a gate for a field effect transistor. In a further form, the device may be a switch that may be coupled to the transistor in various manners to affect its electrical characteristics when on and off. The memory switch in one embodiment comprises side walls formed with tensile or compressive films. A cross point switch is formed from a plurality of intersecting conductive rows and columns of conductors. Actuatable switches are positioned between each intersection of the rows and columns such that each intersection is independently addressable.

    摘要: The present invention offers a switching device in which the intermediate part of shape-memory-alloy wire (17) is retained by actuator (9) connected to one end of link mechanism (4), and both ends of shape-memory-alloy wire (17) are fixedly retained by printed-circuit board (13). Both end parts of shape-memory-alloy wire (17) are fixed on printed-circuit board (13). This shape-memory-alloy wire (17) generates heat due to electric power supplied from the circuit, generates the shape-memory effect to deform. This causes actuator (9) to operate. On this occasion, because the electrically connected part is fixed, even for frequent repetitive operations, damage due to fatigue does not occur, thus improving reliability. In addition, the device can be simplified because it dispenses with a separate part such as a current-carrying wire, and not requiring a process such as an installation work for current-carrying wires offers low-cost switching devices.
