    摘要: The teachings of the present application generally for an ultra-high frequency (UHF) antenna assembly which provides for a smaller package size with the same or better efficiency as a much larger antenna, particularly between 100 MHz to 500 MHZ. Particularly, through the combination of components and structures for implementing frequency selective surfaces (FSS) and high impedance structures (HIS) in combination with an anisotropic magneto-dielectric material, the present teachings provide for the use of both lower and higher frequency techniques through the operational frequency band and miniaturization, accurately improving the performance of UHF satellite communication antennas. Specifically improving performance in narrowband, with increases in efficiency, bandwidth, and lowered elevation angle radiation characteristics.

    摘要: An antenna configured to receive radiation at global navigation satellite system (GNSS) frequencies includes a dielectric substrate, a circular patch overlaying the dielectric substrate, one or more impedance transformers, and a metamaterial ground plane. The metamaterial ground plane includes a plurality of conductive patches and a cavity. The conductive patches are arranged along a first plane on a backside of the dielectric substrate and are separated from the circular patch by the dielectric substrate. The cavity includes a ground plane and a conductive fence. The ground plane is arranged along a second plane below the first plane. The ground plane is electrically coupled to at least a first portion of the plurality of conductive patches by conductive vias. The conductive fence is spaced from the backside of the dielectric substrate and from the plurality of conductive patches by a gap.

    摘要: An apparatus is provided for causing a phase-shift in reflected signals that are a reflection of surface-traveling wave signals of a select signal frequency. The apparatus comprises a conductive strip having a plurality of slots therein alternatingly arranged orthogonal to each other, each slot having an effective length that is a fraction between 9/16 and ⅞ of the wavelength associated with the select signal frequency, and a plurality of conductive enclosures respectively disposed under each of the plurality of slots. Each of the conductive enclosure have a width and length sufficient to enclose a respective corresponding slot, and a depth that is a fraction of between ⅛ and ⅜ of the wavelength associated with the select signal frequency when transmitted in the dielectric material. The plurality of slots and plurality of conductive enclosures cause a phase-shift in the range of 150 to 210 degrees in reflected signals that are a reflection of surface-traveling wave signals at the select signal frequency which impinge the apparatus.

    摘要: Materials that exhibit magneto-dielectric effects with high local order in the form of distinct basic units with a defined geometry that provides orientation and spacing that prevents contact between conductive components of a basic unit are disclosed. Use of multiple basic units arranged, for example by embedment, in essentially random orientation relative to one another provides a composite material with magneto-dielectric effects that isotropic and homogeneous. Such basic units are readily manufacturable using conventional techniques.
