A UPS control circuit and a UPS is provided. The UPS includes a rechargeable battery and a UPS control circuit connected with the rechargeable battery. The UPS control circuit includes an input filtering circuit, a rectification circuit, an inversion circuit, a static transfer switch, an output filtering circuit, a control circuit, and a multipurpose DC/DC circuit connected between the rechargeable battery and an output terminal of the rectification circuit. The multipurpose DC/DC circuit is controlled by the control circuit. In a battery mode, the rechargeable battery supplies an input voltage to the inversion circuit via the multipurpose DC/DC circuit. In a mains power mode, the rechargeable battery is charged by an output voltage of the rectification circuit via the multipurpose DC/DC circuit. Therefore, no independent charging circuit is needed to charge the rechargeable battery, causing a simpler circuit structure and a lower cost, and providing greater value to the customer.

Two or more, and typically all, ports have synchronized switching elements to allow the use of a high frequency transformer. This concept and type of converter is known. This invention mitigates a number of limitations in the present art and adds new capabilities that will allow applications to be served that would otherwise not have been practical. A novel circuit topology for a four-quadrant AC port is disclosed. A novel circuit topology for a unidirectional DC port with voltage boost capabilities is disclosed. A novel circuit topology for a unidirectional DC port with voltage buck capabilities is disclosed. A novel circuit for a high efficiency, high frequency, bi-directional, AC semiconductor switch is also disclosed.

A first primary winding N11 of a transformer 1 is connected with a commercial power source 30 via a transistor Q1, and a second primary winding N22 of the transformer 1 is connected with a backup battery 31 via a transistor Q2. An electric power on the second primary winding N12 is output for a controlling apparatus. When a voltage of the commercial power source 30 is larger than a predetermined value, a backup stopping circuit 10 turns off a LED 9 and stops the transistor Q2. The second primary winding N22 is connected with input terminals 14, 15 as a power source for charging a battery 31. While the transistor Q2 is stopped, an electric power for the battery is output from the second primary winding N22. Since the LED 9 turns on at the time of electric power breakdown, the electric power for the battery is stopped.

When the commercial AC input power supply 1 is operating normally, the AC-side RCC type switching circuit 21 is operated preferentially to supply power to the secondary drive circuit 25, but when there is a power outage with the commercial AC power supply 1, the DC-side RCC type switching circuit 69 is operated to supply power to the secondary drive circuit 25, and these two switching circuits can be switched at high speed.
