    Abstract: A turret of a lathe has a power transmission that is used for moving a tool Disk secured on a shaft to a secured position where the disk is engaged with a clutch. The transmission includes a piston, and a force multiplier unit, which includes a ring, a sleeve secured to the piston, and steel beads. The ring has first sloping trenches. The sleeve has sloping trenches that are less steep and opposing the first trenches, and has recesses connected to the trenches. The steel beads are held in respective ones of the spaces defined by the sloping trenches and the recesses, and are positioned next to a gear secured on the shaft such that when the piston is actuated for moving the tool disk towards the secured position, the steel beads will push the gear with multiplied force output while being rolled along the sloping trenches.

    Abstract: An improved dual cam indexing drive assembly (10) is disclosed which is well suited for use in driving various types of rotational, linear, and/or reciprocating work transfer apparatus (12). The drive system (10) utilizes primary and secondary rotatable cams (32, 34) supported on and driven by a common shaft (36) coupled to a power source (24) via suitable gear reduction (30), clutch and/or brake means. Aligned primary and secondary cam followers (54, 56, 58 and 64, 66, 68) are provided on the moving transfer apparatus (14), the primary cam followers (54, 56, 58) being designed to operatively engage cam grooves (46, 48) provided on both primary and secondary cams (32, 34) whereas the secondary cam followers (64, 66, 68) cooperate only with cam grooves (48, 50, 52) provided on the secondary cam (34) to drive the work transfer apparatus (12) between successive work stations.

    Abstract: An indexing rotary actuator for applying the torque of a rotatable pivot arm to rotate a member between plural index positions. The forward stroke of the pivot arm drives a slider crank linkage through a four bar linkage to unlock the rotatable member and rotate the member to its next index position. On the return stroke of the pivot arm a spring biased locking arm on the rotatable member is interlocked with the actuator to lock the rotatable member in the index position. Interlock switches are provided to indicate when a rotated member is in a valid index position.

    Abstract: An indexing device for indexing a member, such as a table, into operative working positions in which the table carries follower elements, such as rollers, and cooperating therewith is a drive member mounted on a pair of parallel equal length arms which rotate in unison thereby causing the drive member to take an orbital path. The drive member is slotted and during travel along the orbital path picks up one of the followers on the table and therethrough causes the table to carry out an indexing movement. The indexing movement of the table is smooth and does not involve movement of the table at excessive speeds.

    Abstract: Automatic machinery for performing multiple operations on different parts of workpieces includes an incrementally rotating, workpiece supporting turret provided with three workpiece supports. Upon rotating of the turret, a workpiece loaded on a support located at a first position is indexed about the axis of the turret to a second position at which a first operation is performed thereon, then to a third, idle position. Continued rotation of the turret results in an index of the workpiece to the first position, then again to the second position at which a second operation is performed thereon. After the next index to the third position, the workpiece is unloaded from the support. As the turret is indexed, the workpiece is rotated relative to the turret whereupon the workpiece is oriented differently each time it reaches the second position causing the operations to take place on different parts of the workpiece. The workpiece is loaded on one of the three supports following every second index and a workpiece is unloaded from one of the supports following alternate indexes. An operation is performed on a workpiece following each index. In the specifically disclosed embodiment, the workpiece is a two pole stator frame which is to be provided with two identical pieces of insulation at diametrically opposed points on the stator frame. The insulation is delivered along a predetermined path by a delivery mechanism. Accordingly, each stator frame is rotated through a net angle of 180* relative to the turret between the two intervals in which it is located at the second position in order to place the appropriate parts of the stator frame in the predetermined insulation delivery path.
