Abstract:
A device for forming a pattern in a sheet of material is provided. The device includes a base having a detent portion and a locating portion that provides a first position, a platform moveably coupled to the base, and a punch supported by the platform and configured to move between a reset position and a depressed position. The platform includes a detent element configured to engage the detent portion when the platform is proximate the first position and a locating element configured to provide fine location of the platform in the first position relative to the base by engaging the locating portion. The punch forms a pattern in a sheet of material when the punch moves from the reset position to the depressed position and a sheet of material is present proximate the depressed position.
Abstract:
A cut-off mechanism for forming metal parts from elongate stock and the like includes a first jaw having a first cutting surface that extends from a sharpened cutting edge. A second jaw has a second cutting surface that extends from a sharpened cutting edge. A connector pivotally interconnects the first and second jaws in a side-by-side relationship at a location spaced apart from the first and second cutting surfaces. The connector positions the leading edges of the first and second cutting surfaces in close planar alignment to shear cut stock positioned therebetween. The cutting edge of the first cutting surface has a hook-shaped side elevational configuration extending arcuately between an outer tip portion thereof and an inner base portion thereof. When the first and second jaws are pivotally converged, stock positioned between the first and second cutting surfaces adjacent the outer tip portion of the cutting edge of the first cutting surface is incrementally shear cut through its entire thickness to cleanly sever the same to length with minimal jolt.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for collecting and removing chaff from an internal drum imaging system. The chaff collection apparatus includes a chaff tray coupled to the internal drum below the side punches. The chaff tray includes a cover comprising a plurality of evenly spaced frangible fingers. A specific set of the fingers is removed from the cover according to the locations of the side punches on the internal drum. In this manner, only the portions of the cover below the side punches are open to the interior of the chaff tray. The chaff produced by each punch passes into the chaff tray through a respective opening in the cover, and is captured within the chaff tray. The areas of the cover of the chaff tray that are not located below the side punches remain covered by the remaining frangible fingers, thereby preventing chaff from escaping the chaff tray.
Abstract:
An apparatus for punching transversely throughgoing coaxial holes in spaced walls of a workpiece has a holder supporting the workpiece and an outer tool part formed with a pair of transverse bores and displaceable between an advanced position engaged over the workpiece on the holder and outwardly flanking the walls and a retracted position spaced from the holder. An inner tool part formed with a transversely throughgoing bore is displaceable in the advanced position of the outer tool part between an advanced position engaged between the walls and with its bore coaxial with the bores of the outer tool part and a retracted position with its bore spaced from the workpiece in the holder. The outer tool part is formed with a waste passage aligned with the inner-part bore in the retracted position of the inner part. Respective punches are axially displaceable in the outer-part bores in the advanced positions of the tool parts to punch a respective piece from the respective wall and push the punched-out piece into the bore of the inner tool part. A knockout element can be pushed in the retracted position of the inner tool part into the inner-part bore by an actuator to push the piece therein into the waste passage.
Abstract:
A punch, in which two operations, e.g., the movement of a head 1 along a rail 4 and the vertical movement of a punch 32 are carried out by the rotation of a slide transmission shaft 2 is provided, so that the bad influence of the inertia of the head 1 is suppressed, and the high speed operation is realized to thereby enhance the punching operation. The punch of the present invention comprises, a slide transmission shaft 2 to engage with a head 1, a driving member 28 having concentrically a helical cam 281 consisting of a helical portion and a vertical portion on its outer circumference and a punch driving gear, a rack 31 being parallel with the slide transmission shaft 2 and having teeth of the pitch identical with the pitch of the helical cam 281, while being engaged with the rack 31, and a punch driven gear 30 being rotated while being engaged perpendicularly with the punch driving gear 29 and having a pin 361 to be engaged with a rectangular hole 331 of the punch driving member 29. So that the head 1 is displaced along the rack 31 while the helical portion of the helical cam 281 is engaged with the rack 31. And an up-down movement of the tip end of the punch 10 is carried out with an area of punching process while the vertical portion of the helical cam 281 is engaged with the rack 31. Further, the head displacement and stoppage and the up-down movement of the punch are completely synchronized with the pitch of the holes to be punched.
Abstract:
Frame members of the apparatus mount cutter assemblies that are aligned by relative adjustive movement of the frame members with edges of a cutout that is to be cut from sheet material. The adjustive relative movement of the frame members additionally effects adjustment of the relative positions of the cutter assemblies and associated cam members also carried by the frame members. This in turn causes the cuts made by the cutter assemblies to be of the same length as the therewith aligned cutout edges. The apparatus preferably further includes clamping members that engages the sheet material during each cutting operation, and drive components for imparting desired motions to the various movable components of the apparatus.
Abstract:
Apparatus for trimming the lateral marginal portions of successive stacks of sheets of multiple unit width and for subdividing the trimmed stacks into stacks of unit width has an advancing unit which moves the stacks stepwise in a direction at right angles to their width, a trimming station where the marginal portions of successive stacks are trimmed, and two or more severing stations which are disposed one after the other, as considered in the direction of advancement of the stacks, and at each of which the width of the stacks is reduced by one unit width as a result of separation of discrete stacks of unit width therefrom. The stacks at the severing stations are moved sideways by the width of a stack of unit width prior to a separating step. The mechanisms at the severing stations employ knives which are aligned with one another, as considered in the direction of advancement of stacks, and are accessible at the outer sides of the respective severing stations.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a positioning head for cutting and marking apparatus, whereby when a plurality of cutter wheels or marking-off wheels are successively moved into place, the positioning head or heads which have already been positioned in place can be locked in place. The positioning head comprises, within a housing mounted on the boss of the cutter or marking-off wheel and slidably fitted on two guide bars, a feed gear threadedly engaged with a feed screw shaft which is extended through the housing, an input gear slidably mounted on an input shaft which is extended through the housing, a group of driving gears for transmitting the rotation of the input gear to the feed gear, and a clutch for connecting and disconnecting the driving force transmitted to the feed gear from the input gear, whereby after the positioning head has been put in place, the clutch may be disengaged so as to lock the positioning head in place while any other positioning head is being moved.
Abstract:
During passage of an I-beam through a punching press for punching holes vertically through its web, holes are also punched through its flanges by horizontally acting punches of the present invention. Four C-shaped punching heads are provided for the flanges. To permit punching closely adjacent holes, two punches are powered by a single hydraulic cylinder, unless one is deactivated. A joint gauge screw precisely adjusts gauge (the spacing between the two punches), and may be raised or lowered for centering as to web. Before each flange punching operation, the web is pressed firmly against a fixed block level with the web die. The piston of the hydraulic cylinder is of such large diameter that the varying positions of the punches will lie within the projected periphery of the piston rod.
