摘要： Disclosed is a dissolvable, gel-forming film, and methods for its use, comprising a water-soluble cellulose ether, a hydrophilic rheological modifying agent, and an active proteolytic enzyme or other drug substance. The gel-forming film has a water content of less than 15% w/w and is capable of forming a hydrogel when contacted with water or other aqueous medium. The disclosed films achieve delivery of stable proteolytic enzymes to the desired site of action in a manner that provides uniform delivery of the enzymes.

In particular, such devices may include substances of interest (such as therapeutic substances) associated with the electrospun fibers. Exemplary devices include bandages formed from electrospun dextran fibers and associated agents that promote hemostasis, such as thrombin and fibrinogen.

摘要： A system for treating used hygienic articles including soiled or swollen superabsorbent materials (SAMs). The portion of the article including the soiled or swollen SAM is treated with a chemical which restructures or degrades the soiled or swollen SAM so that the products of the reaction are easily disposable in a method alternative to trash disposal and landfilling, including through municipal treatment where the products of the reaction do not clog a standard toilet or standard plumbing. Hygienic articles include baby diapers, adult diapers, incontinence pads, menstrual pads, or any other article which includes one or more SAMs.

摘要： A debridement enzyme for necrotic tissue is described that is not dependent upon proteolytic enzymatic activity but instead utilizes the amylase family of enzymes. The amylases (α-, β-, γ-amylase) are noted for the cleavage of the α-glycosidic bonds of polysaccharides, yielding lower molecular weight carbohydrate/sugar fragments. It has now been found that α-amylase is effective in the debridement of devitalized tissue.

摘要： A smart antimicrobial material and dressing to inhibit microbial growth is provided. Endogenous chemicals, such as metabolites produced from bacteria are utilized as chemical substrates and converted by enzymes to produce a disinfecting compound that will in turn inhibit the targeted microorganism. The material shall remain passive until such time as it encounters a microbe which expresses and/or secretes specific metabolites or markers. The enzyme or enzymes embedded in the smart material converts the metabolite into a disinfecting compound, which in turn either kills the microorganism or prevents it from multiplying on the surface of the material.
