    摘要: A combination of a bellows structure (12), volume restrictor, and pressure restrictor for use on a hand-operated resuscitator is provided to enable delivery of ventilation within specific volume and pressure limitations specified by the operator. The bellows structure (12) consistently provides predictable and uniform generation of gas flow for ventilation without regard to one or two-handed technique, hand placement, or hand size. The volume restrictor, primarily comprising of an inflow obturator (20), outflow obturator (22), and placement cam (34), enables the physician to specify a specific tidal volume to be delivered, which constitutes a volume-controlled cycling capability of the invention. The pressure restrictor, primarily comprising of an outer housing (40), stopper housings (41), and a stopper (50), enables the physician to specify a specific maximum airway pressure to be exposed to the patient, which constitutes a pressure-controlled cycling capability of the invention. Combined use of the volume and pressure restricting mechanisms can provide for various additional abilities, including limiting airway pressure during volume-controlled ventilation or providing a means to detect decreasing pulmonary compliance.

    摘要: A system for mechanically lowering a load from an elevated position to a lower position in a relatively slow and controlled manner using only gravity and frictional forces. The system includes a vertically aligned glide rod, a guide collar that moves longitudinally over the glide rod, two vertically mounted friction rods mounted on opposite sides of the glide rod, a friction collar that moves longitudinally along each friction rod, and a support platform coupled to each friction collar and to the guide collar. The glide rod includes spiral fluted vanes along its entire length upon which the guide collar rides when a load placed on the support platform, allowing the support platform to descend at a safe speed via gravity. The friction rod and collars are used to move the support platform from a stored position located above the elevated loading position to a lower position so that a load may be placed onto the support platform and to stabilize the support platform as it descends from the loading position to the ground.

    摘要: A rapid escape system for buildings including at least one ride unit for a corresponding at least one building occupant to exit via an elevator-type shaft or tube or down the outside of a building at a rapid, predetermined and substantially constant descent velocity. The system includes a lightweight tuned open frame AC linear electromagnetic power generator with one active half fixed to a backpack/ride on which a person or other object/load can be securely fastened, the other active half fixed top to bottom to a tall structure. When coupled magnetically via the air gap and moving they form a tuned AC permanent magnet linear electro-magnetic generator. When the loaded ride unit is dispatched from any height under gravity the resonant Q factor of the generator permits the AC current to rapidly rise, thus inducing the retarding force generated in the air gap necessary to equal the weight of the descending backpack/ride plus load and stabilizing descent velocity to design speed. Variation in load weight can be tolerated due to this Q factor, thus permitting rapid dispatching of a multiplicity of loads serially.
