    摘要: The present invention relates to a portable process for automated fastening of aircraft structures. The invention will employ two primary elements for locating and installing through-the-skin fasteners. Inside and outside units are attached onto an airframe and indexed to each other through coordination holes that have been pre-drilled through the structure. The aircraft structure is assembled with the pre-drilled coordination holes by aligning adjacent airframe parts and inserting alignment pins. The alignment pins will provide a degree of clamping to pull the parts together and provide indexing for inside and outside vacuum attachment track systems. The invention is equipped to traverse along the track system, accurately position itself, and drill only or countersink a hole, insert a fastener, and fasten, i.e., upset a rivet, or run down a threaded nut, then reposition itself to the next fastener location and repeat the process.

    摘要: A multiple-axis machine for positioning a rotary-driven spindle, such positioning being by use of linear motors. The machine has a support for defining multiple axes, with (i) a rigid vibration-dampening bed defining at least an X-axis; (ii) at least one hollow column defining a Y-axis and having one end adjacent and movable along the bed and the other end extending away from said bed; (iii) a slide adapted for movement along the Y-axis of the column; (iv) a cage rigidly fixed to the slide for defining a Z-axis way; and (v) a hollow ram slidable within the cage and along the Z-axis way and carrying the spindle. The machine has bearing assemblies interposed between the column one end and the bed, between the column and slide, and between the cage and ram to provide for respective relative movements along the axes, the bearing assemblies being preloaded to provide an interference fit of 10-20% of the maximum bearing loading. Linear motor assemblies are interposed between the column one end and bed, between the column and slide, and between the cage and ram, the linear motor assemblies are selectably actuatable to impose a linear thrust force upon any or all of the column, slide, or ram for respective movement along the axes. The ratio of the natural frequency of the support and bearing assemblies to the bandwidth of the control velocity loop is slightly greater than one.

    摘要: A composite mechanism multi-axis machine tool includes an orthogonal coordinate feeding axis mechanism and a parallel type spatial linkage mechanism. The orthogonal coordinate feeding axis mechanism has two orthogonal platforms to provide two dimensional motion vectors. The parallel type spatial linkage mechanism has three sets of linear feeding modules engaging with a base frame for holding a main spindle which further holds a tool cutter. The parallel type spatial linkage mechanism provides one dimensional motion and two dimensional rotation for the tool cutter. A controller is provided to control and coordinate the movements of the orthogonal coordinate feeding axis mechanism and the parallel type spatial linkage mechanism. It reduces accumulation of inertia and tolerance effect, and rigidity deficiency of conventional orthogonal coordinate multi-axis machine tool, and overcomes the problems of conventional hexapod parallel type spatial linkage mechanism such as difficult for position tuning, small working space, complex control system and high cost.

    摘要: A first frame is provided, having a pair of parallel pusher bars, the inside surfaces thereof pressing against outer surfaces of a unitary workpiece support block positioned within the frame, and a second frame has a pair of pusher bars having inside surfaces pushing against the remaining outer surfaces of the unitary support block. Stationary drive means cause the independent orthogonal motion of each frame to thereby position the unitary block fitted between the overlapping frames. In a second arrangement, the unitary support block or post means is replaced by first and second pairs of post members in contact with inside surfaces of the parallel pusher bars of the first frame and in contact with outside surfaces of the parallel pusher bars of the second frame, and third and fourth pairs of post members are similarly positioned with respect to the frames. As a result, a shallow X-Y positioning system is provided enabling the direct transfer of the workpiece load through the post members to the base plate, thereby eliminating cross axis influences producing positioning inaccuracies. The overlapping relationship between the frame members also enables the X-Y motions to be very large if desired, and the second arrangement provides a central placement area for tooling.

    摘要: A supporting system for an x-y table comprising four pairs of superimposed and interconnected upper and lower bearings arranged in a pyramidal array. More particularly, the pairs of bearings are located at the corners of a rectangle with the uppermost bearings of the pairs perpendicular to the lowermost bearings thereof, and with the uppermost bearings of the pairs offset horizontally inwardly relative to the lowermost bearings of the pairs in both the x and y directions, thereby producing the pyramidal array mentioned. With such a bearing array, the weight of the table, and any load thereon, act to preload all of the bearings so that there is zero play in both the x and y directions. Also disclosed is a drive system for an x-y table comprising two-speed x drive means for driving the table in the x directin and two-speed y drive means for driving the table in the y direction, each drive means including selectively operable high and low speed drive members. Antibacklash gearing in the x and y drive means eliminates play therein.
