    摘要: The method involves making a hollow blow molded thermoplastic article having an integral handle. An unblown preform of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is inserted into a blow mold and thereafter stretched by a stretch rod. Blow gas is then injected into the interior of the preform when the blow mold is closed and the preform is at a stretch temperature. After the preform is blown into the shape of the bottle in the mold, blow gas is discharged from the stretch rod onto an interior wall surface where the handle is to be formed. Heated movable mold segments are then advanced within the blow mold from a first retracted position to a second position thereby compressing an interior wall surface of the article into contact with a facing interior wall surface of the bottle to bond the surfaces at an elevated temperature and form an integral handle extending from the exterior wall of the blow molded article.

    摘要: The double blow molding process comprises a primary blow molding step of biaxially drawing and blow molding the preform into a primary intermediate product, a step of heating the primary intermediate product to shrink-mold it into the secondary intermediate product, and a secondary blow molding step of molding the secondary intermediate product into a bottle. This double blow molding process is characterized in that, just before the secondary blow molding step, the secondary intermediate product on standby is maintained at a temperature at least 40null C. or 50null C. higher than the mold temperature used in said secondary blow molding step. From such a temperature, it is possible to determine the double blow molding conditions, which can correspond to the levels of heat resistance required for the bottles, and to provide, with high productivity, the bottles having necessary levels of heat resistance.

    摘要: A method of forming an expandable member for a medical device, and particularly a balloon for a catheter, in which extruded tubing is first expanded in a continuous or a semi-continuous process to form expanded tubing, and then the expanded tubing is further expanded in a balloon mold to form the catheter balloon. The method generally includes expanding a long length of tubing from a first inner and outer diameter to a second larger inner and outer diameter, to form expanded tubing having an expanded intermediate diameter, and processing the expanded tubing to form a plurality of expanded intermediate diameter tube segments, each segment having a length significantly shorter than the length of the expanded tubing. One of the segments is then placed in an inner chamber of a balloon mold, and expanded in the balloon mold to form a balloon for a catheter.

    摘要: A method for forming a balloon for a dilation catheter is provided herein. The method includes the steps of: (i) positioning a tube in a preconditioned mold; (ii) expanding the tube in a preconditioned mold to form a parison; (iii) positioning the parison in a balloon mold; and (iv) expanding the parison within the balloon mold to form the balloon. Thus, the tube is initially expanded into a parison in the preconditioned mold. Subsequently, the parison is expanded into a balloon in the balloon mold. Because of this unique manufacturing process, polyester block copolymers can be formed into balloons. Some of these polyester block copolymers could not be formed into a balloon using prior art blow molding processes. The resulting balloon exhibits superior characteristics, including relatively thin and consistent walls, soft texture, low uninflated crossing profile, expansion in a predictable fashion, and good tensile strength.
