    摘要： A postage label dispensing system for dispensing adhesive-backed labels includes a conveyance system for displacing a supply of label material along a feed path wherein the label material includes a face material having an adhesive backing and a liner material detachably bonded to the adhesive backing. The adhesive backing defines a pair of longitudinal adhesive strips and a non-adhesive region disposed therebetween. The liner material has a longitudinal cut disposed adjacent to, and aligned with, the non-adhesive region to define a pair of liner strips. A peeler plow is disposed downstream of a bending means which induces a bend in the label material along an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal cut, i.e., in an area corresponding to the non-adhesive region, which bend produces an opening between the face material and the liner strips. The peeler plow includes a tip portion operative to penetrate the opening between the face material and the liner strips, and an arcuate blade, disposed to each side of the tip portion, operative to peel the liner strips from the adhesive backing of the face material. A processor is operative to control the conveyance system such that the tip portion of the peeler plow penetrates the opening and the liner strips are peeled from the face material to dispense an application ready printed label. Alternatively, the peeler plow may be repositioned, from a first to a second position, such that the label material is conveyed over an upper surface of the peeler plow to dispense a plurality of lined labels.

    摘要： Weighted modulus numbering apparatus is capable of printing composite numbers consisting of serial identification numbers and accompanying check digits which are determined in accordance with a system where the check digits for certain identification numbers may be invalid, as by requiring a two-digit number rather than an allowable single-digit number. The check digits are generated in the form of digital (for example, binary) words and decoded to provide a signal representing the validity or invalidity of the check digit. A memory stores the check digit words and a bit representing the validity/invalidity of the check digit. The decoding of an invalid check digit operates to cause the word representing the check digit for the next successive identification number to be stored with the valid/invalid bit in memory. The numbering machine, which presents the successive identification numbers for printing, is caused to increment twice in response to a signal representing an invalid check digit. Since the check digit word stored with the signal representing the invalid check digit represents the check digit for the next successive identification number, a check digit numbering wheel is positioned in response to that check digit word and will print the proper check digit for the next successive identification number and also a valid check digit.

Means are also provided to avoid the printing of a character and the changing of a character should there be a void in the successive feeding of sheets in the attachment.

    摘要： A reader for punched document cards having a slide for carrying a document card and movable manually against the action of a spring to put the document card in a pre-reading position, a governor for controlling the motion of the slide and document card in a return movement generated by the spring and a series of switches actuated by the punchings as the card returns under spring action to an initial position. One way clutch mechanism is associated with the governor so that the initial movement of the slide and document card may not be impeded by governor action. A latch operated by the slide is effective to prevent movement of the slide manually out of its initial position with no card in the reader, and the latch is negated in its action by a card in position so that the slide and card may be moved out of initial position.
