The controller is adapted to maintain the pressure generating apparatus to operate for a predetermined time period after the vehicle motion control was terminated, and control the valve device to shut off the communication between the pressure generating apparatus and the wheel brake cylinders, to modify the time period on the basis of the conditions of vehicle motion.

The parameter determining circuit determines a parameter reflecting on brake torque applied to a wheel of the vehicle. The braking condition determining circuit compares the phase of a change in speed of the wheel with the phase of a change in the parameter to determine a phase delay of the change in speed of the wheel and determines the braking condition based on the phase delay, thereby allowing a wheel skid used in the antiskid brake control precisely without employing parameters such as vehicle speed and wheel speed as employed in conventional antiskid brake systems.

Said brake devices (5a-f) preferably consist of disc brakes and the value of said parameter indicates to what extent a film has accumulated on the brake lining surfaces which come into contact with the respective discs, which film reduces the friction between discs and brake linings at least incipiently.
