Disclosed herein are methods of inhibiting chemical self-heating in organic-containing materials by the addition of phosphate and or other buffering agents which control the pH of the organic-containing material and alter the organic nature of the material such that self-heating reaction is inhibited, and fertilizer produced by these methods. Also disclosed are methods for producing an improved, i.e., self-heating resistant, organically-enhanced inorganic fertilizer and methods for improving the management of soil pH and the interaction of fertilizers with the soil and associated agricultural crops.

There is provided a method for producing granular fertilisers that includes at least one structural compound based on at least two salts. The method includes the steps of disposing of at least one salt that includes nitrogen, humidifying the at least one salt, mixing the at least one humidified salt with at least one substance comprising at least one alkaline and/or alkaline-earth element and/or at least one element of group IV, producing a granular fertiliser by granulation of the mixture, and cooling the granular fertiliser. There is also provided a granular fertiliser comprising nitrogen and having a pH in the range of 3≦pH≦7. The granular fertiliser shows a strength σ of σ≧3 MPa and includes a concentration cSC of at least one structural compound with cSC≧50 wt.-%.

The method comprises processing slime and off-gases resulting from the production of phosphorus with an aqueous solution of copper sulphate having a concentration of from 15 to 50% at a temperature within the range of from 20.degree. to 80.degree. C. As a result, two products are obtained, i.e. a liquid product and a solid one.The solid product containing mainly copper phosphide as well as fluorides and chlorides of alkali metals and silicon, and silicates of calcium and aluminium, is used as a modifying and refining agent for hypereutectic silumines and for the manufacture of a copper-phosphorus alloy.The liquid product containing phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid and copper sulphate is used as starting product for the preparation of a copper-containing fertilizer.The method according to the present invention makes it possible to modify the production of phosphorus so as to eliminate the formation of secondary wastes and improve the evnironmental control.
