    摘要: A production method of a PVDF monofilament according to the present invention comprises a drawing step of drawing a melt-spun PVDF monofilament; and a dry thermal relaxation treatment step of subjecting the drawn PVDF monofilament to a relaxation thermal treatment in a gas phase at a temperature between 220° C. inclusive and 300° C. and under such conditions that a relaxation rate falls between 4% inclusive and 10% and that a passing time is not more than 5 seconds, thereby obtaining the PVDF monofilament satisfying the relation represented by Eq (1) below; Y≧d3×2×10−7−d2×2×10−4+d×1.17×10−2+73.11  (1) (where d indicates a diameter (&mgr;m) and Y a knot strength (kgf/mm2)) and having a knot elongation of not less than 24% and a straight elongation of not less than 30%.

    摘要: A process of compression moulding an article from a polymer powder comprising; a) applying a polymer powder to a mould; b) compacting the polymer powder by the application of a pressure P; c) raising the temperature of the surface of the mould to a value above the melting temperature of the polymer powder; and d) maintaining a temperature TM at the surface of the mould for a period of time tM and then cooling to a temperature below the crystallisation temperature of the polymer; where TM and tM are controlled so as to provide a moulded article comprising a polymer of predetermined maximum reptated molecular weight. The compression moulded articles produced by this process are useful as orthopaedic prostheses, such as components of knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, finger or toe joint replacements.
