    摘要: A polyvinylidene chloride latex composition suitable for coating substrates comprising a copolymer of (A) 70 to 95 percent by weight vinylidene chloride, (B) 0.5 to 30 percent by weight hydroxyalkyl ester of an alpha, betaethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, (C) 0 to 3 percent by weight ethylenically unsaturated sulfur acid having sulfur in valence state 6, (D) 0 to 5 percent by weight ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and (E) 0 to 29.5 percent by weight ethylenically unsaturated monomer other than (A), (B), (C) or (D).

    摘要: The present invention relates to synthetic methods for grafting hydrophilic chains onto polymers, particularly hydrophobic polymers such as poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), and chlorinated polypropylene (cPP). Resulting polymers include comb polymers which can have a microphase-separated structure of hydrophilic domains provided by the hydrophilic chains. Articles prepared from these comb polymers, particularly derived from PVDF, include membranes for water filtration in which the hydrophilic domains provide a pathway for water transport. PVC can be plasticized by grafting the PVC with hydrophilic chains. In addition, such articles, particularly articles having biomedical applications, can display anti-thrombogenic properties.

    摘要: Crosslinked vinylidene chloride polymer microgel powders are recovered from a latex obtained by emulsion polymerizing in sequence (a) a first monomer mixture comprising a predominant amount of vinylidene chloride, an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer, and a crosslinking polyfunctional monomer; (b) a minor amount of a polyfunctional monomer for providing graft sites on the product of (a); and (c) a second monomer mixture which is predominantly acrylonitrile, the amount of the second monomer mixture being in the range of about 10 to 25 percent of the weight of the first monomer mixture. The so-formed microgels, having a particle size less than about 1 micron, are admixed with an acrylic polymer and a suitable solvent and then spun into fibers having improved flame-retardancy.

    摘要: An emulsion polymer comprising as one of its components a graft copolymer of a residual aromatic monomer-free support resin polymer and a vinyl chloride (co)polymer is disclosed. The emulsion polymer is prepared using a two-stage process. In the first stage, a chasing monomer is reacted in the presence of a support resin polymer having at least one aromatic monomer to form an polymer which is free of residual monomer and has monomeric units derived from the aromatic monomer(s). In a second stage, the vinyl chloride emulsion (co)polymer is made in situ in a reaction mixture comprising the polymer which is free of residual monomer. An extensive grafting at the second stage yields a novel water dispersible graft copolymer containing both styrene and vinyl chloride.

    摘要: Improved aqueous vinylidene chloride copolymer latexes are provided in which the dispersed polymer particles are heterogeneous and comprise from about 35 to about 75 weight percent of polymerized vinylidene chloride. The heterogeneous polymer particles of such latexes contain a major amount of a soft copolymer core comprising vinylidene chloride and an aliphatic conjugated diene. Such particles also contain a minor amount of a polymeric shell which encompasses the core portion and which consists essentially of (a) a monomer selected from the group consisting of aliphatic conjugated dienes, monovinylidene aromatic monomers and saturated aliphatic esters of monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids; (b) optionally, up to about 30 weight percent (based upon the shell) of vinylidene chloride; and (c) optionally, up to about 10 weight percent based upon such shell of a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid.
