    摘要: Differentiation between grinding wheels which are dimensionally stable in use and which remove stock to specification tolerances and polishing wheels which are flexible and which primarily do not remove stock but which "fill the valleys with the hills" call for different development. This invention is directed to a polishing tool (wheel) comprising selected abrasive, filler and plastic elastomeric bond to produce a non-rigid solid tool (wheel) of minimum voids content, the cured elastomeric bond alone characterized by a Shore hardness of 45-55 but the completed tool face hardness is not in excess of about 96 "Shore A" hardness. The so limited polishing wheel is characterized by non-chattering, non-loading, aggressive and is yet non-smearing. It is arrived at by accurate volume control ratios of the components essentially present in the product.

    摘要: Centrifugal spinning apparatus is provided for the manufacture of fibrils from hot viscous hydrocarbon solutions of olefin polymers having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 3.5. The apparatus consists of an impeller which rotates at high speed in a cylindrical cavity having a discharge port. The impeller has a plurality of blades whose narrow dimensions lie substantially in the plane of the impeller's rotation and whose tips come in close proximity to the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical cavity. The blades are arranged in at least two substantially-identical sets. Within each set, the blades are offset substantially equidistant from one another, both in the rotational plane of the impeller and in the plane transverse thereto. Two inlet ports are provided in the peripheral surface of the cylindrical cavity to feed liquids to the cylindrical cavity, each of which port is narrow in a plane transverse to the plane of the impeller's rotation and extends over substantially the entire peripheral surface. The inlet ports are positioned near the discharge port of the cylindrical cavity and upstream thereof viewed with respect to the impeller's rotation, so that the bulk of the liquids entering the cavity from the inlet ports are swept away from the discharge port by the impeller's rotation.

    摘要: A molding composition for the manufacture of resinoid bonded abrasive structures is described. Each molding composition employs a high temperature thermosetting pre-polymer (or mixture of organic materials) containing aliphatically unsaturated imido radicals, which cures with essentially no evolution of volatiles to produce polyimide resin cross-linked with carbon-to-carbon and/or carbon-to-nitrogen bonds. The preferred molding composition embodies (in addition to the aforementioned type of pre-polymer) quantities of abrasive particles; particles of a strong, high thermal conductivity filler and solid lubricant particles. Grinding wheel composite structures produced from these molding compositions are particularly effective for dry grinding.
