Abstract:
The present invention relates to a semi-rigid pavement comprising: an upper course comprising upper course aggregate and a hydrocarbon binder; a support layer comprising chemically-stabilised aggregate, the support layer located below the upper course; and a subgrade, the subgrade located below the support layer; wherein a geosynthetic is at least partially embedded in the chemically-stabilised aggregate that comprises the support layer.
Abstract:
A method for providing information related to the compaction state of soil when performing a compaction operation with a soil compactor includes: a) detecting a vertical acceleration and a horizontal acceleration of a vibratory roller when moving a soil compactor over soil to be compacted, b) determining a measurement relationship between a ground contact force and a deflection of the vibratory roller for one vibration cycle using the vertical acceleration and horizontal acceleration detected in operation a), c) determining a simulation relationship between the ground contact force and the deflection for one vibration cycle using a ground model taking into account at least one simulation parameter, d) comparing the simulation relationship to the measurement relationship, and e) determining that a default value of the at least one simulation parameter taken into account in the ground model substantially represents a corresponding soil parameter of the soil to be compacted when the simulation relationship substantially corresponds to the measurement relationship.
Abstract:
A geogrid and a manufacturing method thereof. The geogrid comprises multiple ribs, and the multiple ribs are connected to each other at multiple junctions to form multiple cells. At each junction, two or more adjacent ribs of the multiple ribs are inserted into each other via inserts, and each junction is covered by a plastic material. The geogrid can easily be extended to a present state at a construction site, prevent tearing of apertures, prevent soil from leaking from the apertures, and prevent the inserts from rusting or corroding. Since the plastic material, the ribs, and the inserts are bonded to each other, separation strength at the junction is markedly increased. Preferably, an end portion of the insert is completely covered by the plastic material to form an end cap, and the plastic material and the ribs and the inserts are bonded to each other to form columns.
Abstract:
Certain pavement systems and methods for paving are suitable for locations containing a generally weak subgrade with a California Bearing Ratio of four (4) or lower. The pavement system includes a first geogrid layer placed directly on the subgrade; a first granular layer upon the first geogrid layer, the first granular layer having a thickness of from 0.5 times to 20 times the aperture distance of the geogrid layer; a first geocell layer upon the first granular layer comprising a geocell and an infill material; and a capping layer over the geocell layer. A second geocell/geogrid layer can be placed beneath the capping layer, if desired. An optional surface layer may be applied upon the capping layer if desired. The resulting pavement system provides long-term support for pavements applied over the pavement system.
Abstract:
A perforated geocell is made from a plurality of strips that form cells. Each cell wall has a single pattern of perforations spaced evenly over the cell wall. This avoids uneven distributions of stress over the cell wall, reducing deformation of the geocell.
Abstract:
This invention is in the field of road construction as it relates to improving the quality and lifetime of asphalt roads and pavement surfaces. The invention relates to methods and compositions utilizing co-polymers in combination with soil to form improved subgrade soil binder compositions for supporting asphalt roads and pavement surfaces.
Abstract:
A soil substitute material is configured with ground construction and demolition (C&D) waste materials suitable for use in grading or construction projects in industrial, commercial, and after conducting specific preparation steps is useful in selective residential settings, road and highway grading, backfill and cap materials at environmental sites, alternative daily cover at landfills, rough grading for roadbeds and constructing athletic fields, and landfill construction and operation as a stabilized and compactable construction material.
Abstract:
A soil hardening method is for stabilizing soil through the process of drying and grinding the soil, and applying a first agent and a second agent to the soil until the agents are uniformly infiltrated between soil particles to improve hardening, water proofing and stabilization of the soil. The soil mortar can be applied for all types of the soil including silt, clay, and sand, and soil with high moisture content. The soil mortar is economical due to its short working times, and in addition it has uniform curing and is waterproof.
Abstract:
There is described a process for the consolidation of soil in which the moisture containing soil to be consolidated, rubbish or a soil/rubbish mixture is mixed with cement and then compacted. A fluidizing agent is added to the composition to be consolidated.
Abstract:
Systems and methods to provide pressed aggregate-filled cavities for improving ground stiffness and uniformity are disclosed. According to an aspect, a method includes using a mechanism to press into a ground surface in a substantially downward direction to create a concavity. The method also includes substantially or completely filling the concavity with unstabilized or chemically stabilized aggregate, soil, or sand. Further, the method includes using the mechanism to press the aggregate within the concavity to achieve a desired ground stiffness.
