A covering layer is disposed on the outer surface of the roll core. The covering layer has an inner surface and an outer surface. The covering layer includes an elastic matrix material. The elastic matrix material includes a mixture of at least one thermosetting plastic and at least one thermoplastic. The process of making includes providing a roll core having an outer surface, forming an elastic covering layer including at least one thermosetting plastic and at least one thermoplastic, and applying the covering layer to the outer surface of the roll core. The process of repairing includes heating an elastic covering layer made from an elastic matrix material which comprises at least one thermosetting plastic and at least one thermoplastic, and allowing any markings in a surface of the covering layer to be filled.

    摘要: A roll has a base material layer, a front surface layer, and stress relaxation layer. The base material layer is made of low hardness rubber material and provided on an outer circumference of a metal core. The stress relaxation layer is provided on the base material layer and made of material which is at least higher in hardness than the base material layer and larger in stretch than the front surface layer. The front surface layer is made of resin material and provided on the stress relaxation layer. The stress relaxation layer is made of rubber material containing self-crosslinking resin. The stress relaxation layer has a thickness in a range of from 5 to 50 &mgr;m, and stress not lower than 5 MPa at 10% stretch.

A locking device is positionably adjustable to selectively block and unblock a radial lift movement, and the locking device includes a rotatable part having a longitudinal opening. The rotatable part is rotatable into a first rotational position in which the longitudinal opening is oriented substantially parallel to a direction of the radial lift movement, and is rotatable into a second rotational position in which the radial lift movement is blocked. The calender further includes a neighboring roll arranged to form a nip with the roll, and at least one further roll. The neighboring roll and the further rolls are mounted for displacement in the pressing direction, and a device arranged to selectively block and unblock the displacement of the neighboring roll.
