    摘要: The object of the invention is to provide a rack shaft having two rack teeth groups and hollowed throughout the whole body, to lightweightize the shaft and to reduce the cost. The two rack teeth groups are located longitudinally apart from each other and have phase difference related to an angle around the axis of the shaft. After the two rack teeth groups are formed simultaneously or sequentially by die forming on the flat bottoms of the workpiece beforehand gutter-shaped, the legs of the gutter-shaped workpiece are bent to butt to each other and, thereby, a tubular body of the shaft is given to the workpiece. The centers of the material are offset beforehand corresponding to the phase difference.

    摘要: An optimally finished gear has a surface roughness between approximately 5 micro-inches Ra to 10 micro-inches Ra. The reduced surface roughness, when located at the gear teeth, can reduce the maximum contact stress by more than fifty percent. Similarly, the subsurface shear stress can be reduced by approximately thirty percent. The reduced contact stress and reduced shear stress results from improved lubrication conditions between the gear teeth. Surface roughness greater than 10 micro-inches Ra results in increased contact of the surface peaks, while surface roughness lower than 3 micro-inches is too smooth to retain adequate lubrication between the gear teeth.

    摘要: A rack and pinion steering gear including a housing, a rack bar having a rack gear thereon, a pinion gear rotatably supported on the housing, and a rack bearing which slidably engages the rack bar and resiliently thrusts the rack gear against the pinion gear. The pinion gear and the rack bearing constitute a first bearing supporting the rack bar on the steering gear housing for back and forth linear translation. A bushing on the steering gear housing remote from the pinion gear and the rack bearing constitutes a second bearing supporting the rack bar on the steering gear housing for back and forth linear translation. An outboard bearing on the steering gear housing on the opposite side of the pinion gear from the bushing thrusts the rack bar parallel to the direction of the rack bearing and includes an asymmetrically resiliently compressed elastomeric ring on a seat on the steering gear housing and a sleeve mounted eccentrically on the elastomeric ring and slidably engaging the rack bar. The outboard bearing suppresses separation between the pinion gear and the rack gear by supplementing the thrust of the rack bearing and by reducing the overhang distance of the rack bar.

A yoke assembly (36) is located in the yoke bore (22) for at least partially supporting and guiding movement of the rack bar (16) relative to the pinion gear (20). The yoke assembly (36) includes a yoke (38), a yoke plug (42), and an elastomeric spring (40). The yoke (38) is axially spaced from the yoke plug (42) by the elastomeric spring (40). The elastomeric spring (40) is secured to the yoke (38) and to the yoke plug (42) so that the yoke (38), the elastomeric spring (40), and the yoke plug (42) form a unitized assembly.

    摘要: The present invention, being a continuation-in-part of the Reinforced Wrist-pin, makes use of a traversing reinforcing matrix for the non-mechanical surfaces of the piston and connecting-rod components' assembly. Interposing holes, or spacial impressions, within the non-contacting surface planes of such components with reinforcing members formed within such holes, for providing supplemental structural strength, as the multitude of these holes reduce overall component weight for improved efficiency of mechanical operation. For a certain configuration of the surfaces the spacial impressions are through-pass openings within the component. For another configured condition, they only recede a certain distance. Also, a specific surface condition has vertical and horizontal reinforcement members, as another condition only has horizontal members. Cumulatively, these reinforced holes provide effective weight reduction for the force transmitting assembly without compromising structural strength.

The bearing (11) of the gear wheel allows movement of the gear wheel relative to the rack in a direction transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rack, and by movement beyond the end stop the gear wheel will be pressed out of its bearing, and the mechanism is thereby protected against overloading.
