摘要: A blast-resistant window attachment, or retrofit window insulation system, wherein panes of polymer film, such as TPU or ETFE, are held in a roll-formed stainless steel frame to form a pane assembly. One or more pane assemblies are stacked to make a multilayer unit or are mounted in a robust polymer casing that is sized to fit the window frames of an existing building window or to attach to the wall of the building surrounding the window. The polymer film or films can absorb energy of a blast without breaking provided that the collective thickness of the film(s) is at least 20 mil, and preferably 24 mil or more. The casing is, preferably made from a high strength polymer, such as Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, or a metal such as stainless steel. In experiments conducted by the Army Corp of Engineers, the retrofit window insulation system of the present invention, when securely bolted to the structural components of the building around the window, demonstrates a remarkable ability of the polymer film panes to absorb blast energy and mitigate secondary debris hazards.

摘要: A device for destroying a chemical agent is described. The device includes a self-contained, portable pressure vessel which is dimensioned to accommodate an artillery shell, and a heat-generating component within the pressure vessel. The heat-generating component is capable of providing a pyrolytic, exothermic reaction capable of destroying the chemical agent and artillery shell. A process for destroying a chemical agent which includes placing a chemical artillery shell within the pressure vessel, securing the pressure vessel closed, and igniting the heat-generating component inside the pressure vessel to generate a pyrolytic, exothermic reaction capable of destroying the chemical agent and artillery shell is also described.

An operator protects bystanders and surroundings by putting the suspected bomb in a TMU and then closing the TMU. If the bomb goes off, the TMU mitigates the effects of both the blast and the fragments. One variation has a container, a tube, a cap, and a door. The container includes an opening. The tube, arranged in the container, aligns with the opening. The cap slides through the opening and over the tube. The door slides into place to close the opening and enclose the cap within the container.

摘要: A test cell (10) for containing equipment (12) subject to pressure testing comprises a plurality of metal plate wall panels (14) and a mesh roof panel (16) formed from mesh strands (26) of a high strength material. Each wall panel has a lapped connection (18) with an adjacent wall panel. The mesh panel (16) may be formed from a ballistic fabric, and the mesh strands (26) may be wire, rope and braid of steel, metal, plastic, natural or composite fiber, or a combination thereof. In the event of a pressure failure of the equipment (12) under test, the roof panel (16) captures fragments of the equipment while allowing the dissipation of pressure shock waves through the apertures (28) in the mesh. The lapped connections (18) between wall panels (14) result in increased friction between adjacent wall panels (14) and thus an increase in the strength of the connection when subject to pressure shock waves.

摘要: Containment vessels are adapted to facilitate blast and dispersion mitigation. According to one example, a containment vessel may include at least one containment layer. At least one expansion member may be coupled to the at least one containment layer to apply a force sufficient to expand a perimeter of the containment layer(s) laterally outward. A closure system may be coupled with the containment layer(s), where the closure system is configured to cinch the perimeter of the containment layer(s) around a target object without manual intervention. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) including a containment vessel, as well as methods of making a containment vessel are also disclosed. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also included.
