Abstract:
A ferrite core coil device as a sensing element for a sensor device determining a rotational speed of a metallic rotatable object includes a coil having a first sector and a second sector and a ferrite core holding the coil. The ferrite core has a shape of a disk lacking a disk sector and defined by a contour of the disk and a chord of the disk. The chord forms a bending edge of the ferrite core. The first sector of the coil is not arranged on a bed of the ferrite core and the second sector of the coil is arranged on the bed. The first sector is bent around the bending edge at a bending angle with respect to the second sector.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a rotation speed detection device which achieves improved detection accuracy regardless of a compressor and the operating state of the compressor, and enables the prevention of the breakage of a detection unit. A rotation speed detection device for a compressor, wherein a detection unit for detecting full blades and splitter blades that are blades approaching a compressor casing of the compressor in response to a change in the inductance of a magnetic field is provided. The detection unit is provided in an overlap region in which the full blades and the splitter blades that are all blades can be detected and the exposure pressure is in the range of a gauge pressure of one atmosphere or less.
Abstract:
In a method for monitoring a rotation of a compressor wheel of an exhaust-gas turbocharger, which compressor wheel has on the peripheral side a number n of blades, an inductive sensor is provided for detecting the speed or rotational frequency, which sensor produces at least one output signal as a function of eddy currents generated as the blades pass by, and the rotational speed of the compressor wheel is inferred from a fundamental frequency of the output signal. In addition, information about a fault of the compressor wheel is derived from at least one modulation of the output signal, e.g., amplitude modulation, and an imbalance of the compressor wheel is detected.

An apparatus and a computer-implemented method for generating pulses synchronized to a rising edge of a tachometer signal from rotating machinery are disclosed. For example, in one embodiment, a pulse state machine may be configured to generate a plurality of pulses, and a period state machine may be configured to determine a period for each of the plurality of pulses.

The first unitary measurement strip includes a first set of one or more windows, each window of the first set of one or more windows is configured to correspond to a first respective tangential location of the rotational component at the first axial location, and each window of the first set of one or more windows is configured to be detectable via a first sensor.
Abstract:
A wheel speed detection system including a rotator, a sensor head, a detector, a pulse converter, a speed calculator and a threshold shifter. Plural concave and convex portions are formed on a periphery of the rotator rotating together with a wheel. The sensor head includes a coil to generate an alternate current magnetic field. The detector excites the coil to generate an eddy current on the concave and convex portions, and outputs alternate current detection signals corresponding to changes in the eddy current generated with rotation of the rotator. The pulse converter converts the alternate current detection signals into pulse signals according to preset threshold levels. The speed calculator calculates rotational speed of the wheel based on the pulse signals. The threshold shifter shifts the threshold levels corresponding to a difference between a default average and an average of the alternate current detection signals actually outputted from the detector.

Method of attaching a target for use in a system for monitoring the vibration of a plurality of shrouded turbine blades to a shroud segment. The target includes a shim plated with a highly conductive material for inducing variations in eddy currents generated by stationary sensors, as part of a system for monitoring blade vibrations. The target is spot welded to the shroud segment of the turbine blades at the turbine site using portable welding equipment, providing effective and low cost installation.
Abstract:
A tachometer or accelerometer features a nonmagnetic, electrically-conductive, moving member whose velocity or rate of change of velocity is to be measured. A magnetic field is generated in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction of motion, creating eddy currents in the moving member which, in turn, create an eddy current magnetic field. The flux density of the eddy current field is measured by a Hall effect sensor to produce a signal representative of velocity or, alternatively, the rate of change of flux density of the eddy current field is measured by a coil producing a signal representative of the rate of change of velocity. A separate magnetic circuit for the Hall effect sensor or coil sensor, as the case may be, is provided so as to maximize the strength of the eddy current field by concentrating the sensed eddy current flux and thereby maximizing the device's sensitivity and accuracy while minimizing its susceptibility to error through interference.
Abstract:
A drum angularly entrained via a magnetic coupling by a shaft of a vehicular transmission, against a spring force, is linked via another magnetic coupling with a coaxial follower member carrying a printed circuit whose conductors are engageable by respective contact brushes normally spaced therefrom, the brushes acting as brakes upon being moved into contact with the conductors so as to arrest the follower member. An alarm device, which may emit a warning sound and/or carry out a control function, responds to a photoelectric sensor including a light emitter and a light receiver on the follower member coacting with a shutter on the drum, the sensor actuating the alarm device upon a relative displacement of the follower member and the drum beyond a selected relative angular position. A pushbutton, serving to bring the brushes into contact with the printed-circuit conductors, simultaneously connects the alarm device to its power supply.
