    摘要: Shading correction is effected by partitioning a white standard surface into a plurality of scanning blocks having the same number of scanning lines, scanning the standard surface by block to determine block median values in a first processing stage, determining global median values from the block median values in a second processing stage, and subjecting objective image data read from a given original image to arithmetic such as proportioning calculation. With the two-stage processing, shading distortion caused due to nonuniformity in sensitivity of an image scanning system can be rationally and reliably corrected to a high degree with a simple processing circuit.

    摘要: A character data search system which utilizes a plurality of small area scans which are located according to the probability that the field containing the desired information to be recognized is in a given location on the documents. Furthermore, the field is recognized by indicating key characteristics contained therein. The scanning of the field is of a multiple scan type and the scans may partially overlap each other depending upon the characteristics being searched for and the probability of finding the desired data in a given location. Also, for documents of varying size, the location of the scans may be made a function of document size.

    摘要: A mark sense card reader employs dual-threshold circuitry to indicate the presence, absence or inability to determine the presence or absence of marks such as pencil marks on a card. The circuitry includes a light-sensing transducer coupled to first and second differential amplifiers. The first such amplifier produces an indication only when a mark is definitely present. The second such amplifier produces an indication both when a mark is present and when the light level is such that no decision can be made as to whether or not a mark is present. The presence of this last indication concurrently with the absence of the other such indication means that no decision can be reached as to whether or not a mark is present. This situation may occur in cases of a poor erasure, or very light marks and in such cases the circuitry of the present disclosure causes the card to be rejected.
