摘要: Systems and methods for pairing for-hire vehicles with their associated medallion are disclosed. Some for-hire vehicles, such as taxis operate with a for-hire vehicle meter (taximeter). In some embodiments, the meter contains an identifier of a medallion that is associated with the meter. The meter may then determine if it is connected or properly associated with the medallion. If the meter is connected or properly associated with the medallion, it will then access the identification information of the medallion and determine if identification information matches its contained medallion identifier. If the identification information does not match, the meter may shut down and thereafter be non-engageable. The relationship between the medallion and the meter is advantageously used to enforce restrictions on the operation of the for-hire vehicle including, for example, time and location of pick-up restrictions. In other embodiments, meters and medallions communicate their identification and locations to a central server. The central server then compares the locations to determine the distance between the meter and the medallion. If the distance does not satisfy a predetermined range (indicating the meter and the medallion are close together), the central server may generate an alert or it may command the meter to shut down. The central sever may also advantageously be used to enforce restrictions on the operation of the for-hire vehicle. Meters and/or medallions not attached to their assigned medallion and/or meter may also be tracked via the central server.

摘要: Disclosed are method and apparatus for processing of highway toll payments by a mobile telecommunications service provider. A mobile telecommunications device communicates with a mobile telecommunications service provider. The mobile telecommunications service provider receives a request to calculate a route to a destination. The mobile telecommunications service provider determines the location of the mobile telecommunications device from a global navigation satellite system or from a mobile telecommunications network and calculates a route. The mobile telecommunications service provider then identifies toll booths along the calculated route. The mobile telecommunications service provider pre-pays the tolls. The mobile telecommunications service provider sends turn-by-turn instructions to the mobile telecommunications device and tracks the location of the mobile telecommunications device and records the date and time at which the mobile telecommunications device passes through a toll booth.

摘要: Systems and methods of securing, distribution and enforcing for-hire vehicle operating parameters are described whereby a first computer system maintaining the parameters generates a data packet that is distributed to a second computer system which acts as a meter (such as a taximeter, limousine meter or shuttle meter) for the for-hire vehicle. The first computer system may secure or encrypt the data packet according to a security protocol associated with the second computer system. Once the second computer system receives the data packet, it may validate and extract the operating parameters contained within it. The second computer system may then store the operating parameters and operate according to the parameters by, for example, calculating fares for passengers that make use of the for-hire vehicle associated with the second computer system. The second computer system may include a secure segment that is attached to the for-hire vehicle and a non-secure segment that may be easily removed to prevent theft or for repairs.

摘要: A capacitive occupancy detector apparatus includes a personnel containment device having first and second electrodes which will define an electric field therebetween which will be intercepted by a person present in the containment device. A detecting device is provided for detecting the capacitance formed between the first and second electrodes and a processor is provided for storing the capacitance at predetermined periods. The difference between the last capacitance detected and a capacitance previously stored is detected to determine the presence of a person when the difference indicates an increase of the capacitance exceeding a first predetermined threshold. A second threshold is set based upon the capacitance which determines the presence of a person so that the subsequent determination of the absence of a person is based upon detecting a decrease of the capacitance with respect to the second threshold.

摘要: A system for signalling conditions of, including an emergency within, a vehicle comprises a main housing mountable on the vehicle at a location visible from substantially all lateral points. A warning light is mounted within the housing and light which it generates is projected from the housing by an optical system as a plurality of substantially collimated beams each of which is oblique with respect to the major axis of the vehicle. A switch for actuating the warning light is located within the vehicle for unobtrusive operation. The system also includes additional signal lights for signalling different conditions of the vehicle and circuitry which prevents simultaneous operation of certain of the signal lights that have contradictory meanings.
