摘要: A method and apparatus for measuring the eccentricity of an optical disk. The method for measuring the eccentricity of an optical disk in accordance with the present invention comprises the steps of activating tracking servo while the optical disk is rotating, detecting the center value of tracking error signal and setting the center value as a reference value, and detecting the eccentricity of the optical disk by comparing the center value and the tracking error signal received right after the reference value is set. The method in accordance with the present invention precisely measures the eccentricity of an optical disk and adjusts focus and track servo gains and disk rotation speed based upon the measured disk eccentricity, which provides stable data reproduction performance.

摘要: An apparatus and a method are provided for compensating an aberration occurring in a reflected light beam from a recording medium. The apparatus includes a liquid crystal unit including a first electrode layer having divisional electrodes and a second electrode layer, and a liquid crystal element which provides a light beam with a phase change when an electric field is applied; a detector for receiving the reflected light beam through the liquid crystal unit to generate a detection signal; a voltage generator for generating voltages to be applied to the divisional electrodes; and a controller for performing aberration compensation control by changing the applied voltages to each of the divisional electrodes with reference to an applied reference voltage to a predetermined divisional electrode. The controller determines the applied reference voltage based on an amplitude change of the detection signal when the applied voltages to the divisional electrodes are changed.

摘要: The invention relates to an apparatus for the reproduction or recording of data or information with a photodetector and digital error signal and evaluation signal processing. The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for the reproduction or recording of data or information which requires little outlay despite digital evaluation signal processing and a considerable capability of adaptation to different scanning speeds. The invention is based on the principle of enabling digital evaluation signal generation with an analog-to-digital converter known from audio technology, even though the data rate of the data or high-frequency signal requires an analog-to-digital converter for the radio-frequency or for the video signal band. An analog-to-digital converter for the audio frequency band can be used to generate a digital evaluation signal by the analog-to-digital converter having fed to it not the high-frequency signal directly but rather at least one envelope of the high-frequency signal. An envelope detector is also proposed, which envelope detector is advantageously suitable both for the purpose of providing an upper envelope and for the purpose of providing a lower envelope. The invention can preferably be used in apparatuses for the reproduction or recording of data or information with a photodetector and digital error signal and evaluation signal processing by means of which data or information are read from the data tracks of a recording medium or of different recording media or are recorded in tracks.

摘要: A laser beam reflected on a storage surface of a DVD is detected with a light-receiving device to allow a matrix circuit to generate a push-pull signal. The push-pull signal is converted into a binary signal, and a base-n counter, having an upper-limit count which is set to a certain value, counts the resulting signal. A count circuit 8e having a prescribed count time period counts a carry signal which is delivered by the base-n counter. Then, a detection factor is determined from the ratio of the count of the carry signal to the count time period. When the detection factor is below a prescribed value, the upper-limit count of the base-n counter or the count time period is adjusted to control the detection sensitivity. A judgment portion compares a plurality of detection factors with a prescribed threshold to find a determination rate or the ratio of the number of detection factors to be compared with to the number of detection factors which exceed the prescribed threshold. When the determination rate exceeds the prescribed determination threshold, the process determines that wobbles are formed on the information read and/or write media. The determination threshold is adjusted when the determination rate does not exceed the determination threshold.

摘要: A reproduction apparatus and method a recording apparatus and method by which two different kinds of data can be reproduced and recorded efficiently are disclosed. When main data are intermittently read in from a recording medium, periods within which reading in of the main data is not performed appear inevitably, and the periods are made use of to read in sub data from the recording medium, thereby allowing synchronized reproduction of the main data and the sub data which relate to the main data. On the other hand, when main data are intermittently written onto a recording medium, periods within which writing of the main data is not performed appear inevitably, and the periods are made use of to write sub data onto the recording medium, thereby allowing parallel recording of the main data and the sub data.

摘要: A portable audio player stores a large amount of compressed audio data on an internal disk drive, and loads a portion of this into an internal random access memory (RAM) which requires less power and less time to access. The audio player plays the data stored in RAM and monitors the amount of unplayed data. When the amount of unplayed data falls below a threshold, additional data is copied from the disk drive into RAM. When the portable audio player is turned off, a predetermined amount of audio data is stored in a fast-access non-volatile flash memory unit. When the audio player is turned back on, and play is resumed, a suitable portion of this data can be played while data is being loaded from the disk drive into RAM, thus reducing the amount of time a user must wait before receiving data in response to a play request.

摘要: A prepit detection unit for detecting prepits in an optical recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing information on a recordable, optical record medium including preinformation such as address information in a prepit form. In the prepit detection unit, for first and second divisional RF signals output from a pickup being divided into a first divisional light reception part and a second divisional light reception part by a division line optically parallel to the tangential direction of an information track for receiving reflected light from the optical record medium, mark sections and space sections are clamped by potential correction circuits and a difference is found by a radial push-pull circuit.

摘要: An optical recording and reproducing apparatus for adjusting a tilt of an optical pickup in accordance with an amount of jitter of a reproduction signal, a tilt adjusting method therefor, and a recording control method. The optical recording and reproducing apparatus includes an optical pickup having an object lens, a tilt adjusting unit for adjusting a tilt angle of the object lens, a jitter detecting unit for detecting an amount of jitter of a reproducing signal generated by the optical pickup from a disk, and a tilt controlling unit for minimizing the amount of jitter by feeding the amount of jitter detected by the jitter detecting unit back to the tilt adjusting unit. According to the optical recording and reproducing apparatus, there is no need for a space in which a displacement sensor detecting the tilt angle of the optical pickup faces the disk.
