The spherical dual-polarization phased array weather radar comprises a spherical crown phased array antenna module, a digital transceiver module and a signal processing module, wherein the spherical crown phased array antenna module comprises a spherical support frame and a plurality of dual-polarization micro-strip radiation units; the dual-polarized micro-strip radiation units are tightly arranged on the spherical support frame; the spherical crown phased array antenna module is used for detecting weather; wireless transmission is carried out between the digital transceiver module and the spherical crown phased array antenna module; the digital transceiver module is used for generating a frequency modulation signal or a phase coding signal required for detecting meteorological targets and receiving an echo signal reflected by the target; and the signal processing module is connected with the digital transceiver module.

A system, in a programmable active reflector (AR) device associated with a first radio frequency (RF) device and a second RF device, receives a request and associated metadata from the second RF device via a first antenna array. Based on the received request and associated metadata, one or more antenna control signals are received from the first RF device. The programmable AR device is dynamically selected and controlled by the first RF device based on a set of criteria. A controlled plurality of RF signals is transmitted, via a second antenna array, to the second RF device within a transmission range of the programmable AR device based on the associated metadata. The controlled plurality of RF signals are cancelled at the second RF device based on the associated metadata.

An apparatus and method for mitigating polarization mismatch in reflector antenna systems. A feed unit is configured to determine a polarization mismatch between a first polarization associated with a first wave and a second polarization associated with a reflector unit. The feed unit pre-distorts the first wave to achieve a compensated polarization for reducing and/or eliminating a polarization mismatch. The pre-distorted first wave having the compensated polarization is used to illuminate the reflector unit. A re-radiated wave is reflected by the reflector unit. Furthermore, the level of the re-radiated wave is increased as a result of the pre-distortion.

A system and method for imaging and aligning antennas that includes an overlay imaging aligner composed of two or more antennas in association with a polarization gate, a polarization beam splitter, a non-polarizing beam splitter, a beam dump, one or more imaging lens and a common detector array. The overlay imaging aligner aligns the antennas by overlaying simultaneous digital images associated with the antennas on the common detector array. The antennas can be, for example, mm Wave antennas, waveguides, etc. The detector array generates real-time digital images the antennas. Such an approach of simultaneous imaging leverages the spatial resolution of digital optical imaging to aligning antenna components.

An antenna feed assembly is provided which includes at least two elongate feed chains lying adjacent one another. Each feed chain is adapted to transmit or receive electromagnetic radiation between itself and the antenna along a longitudinal feed axis thereof via a transmit/receive element. The feed chains are held in fixed lateral relationship to one another by first and second mountings spaced apart axially of the feed chains. The transmit/receive elements extend axially from the first mounting towards the antenna and the second mounting is positioned on a side of the first mounting remote from the antenna. The first mounting has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion in the lateral direction than the second mounting whereby translational movement of each transmit/receive element in the lateral direction owing to temperature change of the assembly will be reduced.

A Cassegrain antenna system includes a flat dielectric plate radome having a thickness of one-half wavelength at a frequency of operation. The plate has an electrically conductive grid disposed on an inside surface thereof to permit perpendicularly polarized energy rays to pass there-through. A parabolic twist reflector is spaced from the radome, and includes a dielectric substrate having a thickness equivalent to one-quarter wavelength at a frequency of operation and having formed on an interior surface thereof an array of conductive strips oriented by 45 degrees relative to the incident ray polarization. A conductive ground layer is formed on an exterior surface of the substrate, wherein radiation reflected by the ground layer and passing through the dielectric substrate is shifted by 180 degrees in phase and is rotated in polarization when combined with energy reflected from the conductive strip array by 90 degrees relative to radiation incident on the twist reflector. The reflected energy from the polarization twist reflector is again reflected, this time by the grid formed on the radome surface, to a focal region. An RF housing with a plurality of RF feed elements is located at the focal region and are respectively spaced by a single beamwidth.

The linear support ribs are placed perpendicular to or parallel to the conductors of the overlapped reflector and are placed substantially outside of the high field region across the aperture of the overlapped reflector.
