A method, apparatus, article of manufacture and system for producing a field pole member for electrodynamic machinery are disclosed to, among other things, reduce magnetic flux path lengths and to eliminate back-iron for increasing torque and/or efficiency per unit size (or unit weight) and for reducing manufacturing costs. For example, a field pole member structure can either reduce the length of magnetic flux paths or substantially straighten those paths through the field pole members, or both. In one embodiment, a method provides for the construction of field pole members for electrodynamic machines.

An alternating current motor comprising a combination of magnetic frequency tripler and induction rotor. The alternating current motor includes a three-legged core of which two legs serve as input leg having a coil wound thereabout and thereby constitute a linear reactor and a saturated reactor. The two coils are connected in series. The residual one leg serves as output leg which generates magnetic flux having tripled frequency by applying single phase input to the input legs. A rotor is rotatably disposed in the cylindrical gap formed in the output leg. Thus, the rotor is stably rotated at a higher rotational speed equivalent to synchronized speed determined by tripled frequency relative to frequency of alternating current supplied from commercial power supply system.

The motor rotor includes a hollow cylindrical body made of a magnetizable material, having one end firmly connected to the hub, and having a wall with a first thickness in the region that is coextensive with the stator and a second thickness, smaller than the first thickness, which is outside of the region that is coextensive with the stator and which is in the region of the connection of the cylindrical body with the hub. The point of transition from the first thickness to the second thickness of the wall is a predetermined distance from the nearest point of contact of the hub with the cylindrical body so as to increase the magnetic resistance between the hub and the cylindrical body.

A small A.C. electric motor a stator core is provided in the form of a block made of sintered soft magnetic material, the stator core having a disk-shaped or ring-shaped yoke used as a common magnetic path and a plurality of tooth-like poles extending from the yoke in the axial direction of the stator core. Groups of windings are placed on the tooth-like poles, and a rotor is confronted by the tooth-like poles. In such an electric motor, the windings can be readily installed on the stator core. The electric motor in another aspect may include a sleeve of soft magnetic material, the sleeve being provided on the toothlike poles of the stator core in order to reduce higher spatial harmonic of electromotive force.

A stator in a small electric machine such as a micromotor comprises: a stator core provided with tooth-like poles and fully opened winding accommodating slots; and a special sleeve provided with protruded portions and bridging portions connecting the protruded portions, the special sleeve being inserted in the stator core in such a manner that the protruded portions contact the ends of the tooth-like poles of the stator core thereby closing the winding accommodating slots. The stator thus organized facilitates the insertion of the windings into the winding accommodating slots.
