摘要: The invention is a cooling unit for a heat exchanger, which preferably is a heat exchanger integrated in an oxygenator for the purpose of controlling the temperature of blood conveyed in an extracorporeal blood circuit. The cooling unit has a reservoir in which a liquid is stored, a reaction vessel comprises a reactant and which, in conjunction with the liquid, is able to initiate an endothermal reaction. A fluidic access is generated between the reservoir and the reaction vessel. A fluid line extends at least in part inside the reaction vessel which has an inlet line and outlet line, which are each connectable or connected in a fluid-tight manner to a hose system of the heat exchanger, which together with the hose system of the heat exchanger, provides least part of a fluid circuit.

摘要: An improved system and methods for treatment of cancer and other diseases including complications from late-stage viral infections by inducing hyperthermia in a patient relying on withdrawing blood from the patient and returning the withdrawn blood to the patient to establish an extracorporeal flow circuit. Blood is heated by passing through the extracorporeal circuit at a controlled rate until a target body core temperature in is achieved. Usually, the blood will be subjected to a continuously re-circulating dialysis to balance electrolytes. Additionally, the blood will be subjected to a continuously recirculating regeneration through a carbon sorbent column where toxins and contaminants are removed. The blood temperature is maintained at the target blood temperature for a treatment period, and the blood is cooled after the treatment period has been completed. The method can also be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, hepatitis, sepsis, the Epstein-Barr virus, and patients with life threatening complications from other viruses, including the COVID-19 virus. A method for removing viruses from the blood supply in an external circuit is also presented. An adjunct of the present invention is enhanced production of stem cells as a result of employing the HEATT process. A further adjunct is production of transgenic swine with extant viral infections.

摘要: An oxygenation system for a ventilation system comprises an inlet for receiving oxygenation gas at an oxygenation gas flow rate into an oxygenator, and an exhaust gas remover to remove exhaust gas at an exhaust gas flow rate from the oxygenator, and one or more flow controllers for controlling the exhaust gas flow rate relative to the oxygenation gas flow rate. This allows the amount of total gas entering the oxygenator and the amount of total gas removed from the oxygenator to be controlled with greater accuracy.

摘要: A catheter is provided, such as for distal neurovascular access or aspiration. The catheter includes an elongate flexible body, having a proximal end, a distal end and a side wall defining a central lumen. A distal zone of the side wall includes a tubular inner liner, a tie layer separated from the lumen by the inner liner, a helical coil surrounding the tie layer, adjacent windings of the coil spaced progressively further apart in the distal direction. An outer jacket surrounds the helical coil. The outer jacket is formed from a plurality of tubular segments positioned end to end, coaxially about the coil. The flexural load profile of the catheter as a function of catheter length is configured to provide enhanced distal flexibility while maintaining high backup support.

摘要: An exposure cell and method for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning in the blood of a living body by removal of a portion of blood from the body, placing the portion in the exposure cell, exposing the portion in the cell to light of wave length and intensity that causes dissociation of carbon monoxide from hemoglobin, and returning the portion to the body. The exposure cell has an exposure zone outside of the body, that holds the portion, and a window that allows light from outside the zone to enter the zone to disassociate carbon monoxide from the portion. Oxygen is injected into the zone and carbon monoxide is removed from the zone.
