A frame surrounds the impeller. One or more steering wires are coupled to the frame and configured to extend from the frame, to outside the body of the subject, while the frame is within the body. Other applications are also described.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are described including a left-ventricular assist device that includes a pump-outlet tube shaped to define one or more blood-outlet openings and including a narrower section, and a wider section, which is proximal to and wider than the narrower section, and which is shaped to define at least a portion of each of the blood-outlet openings such that a normal vector to the portion has a distally-facing component. The pump-outlet tube is inserted, through the subject's aorta, into the subject's left ventricle such that the pump-outlet tube traverses an aortic valve of the subject with the blood-outlet openings being disposed within the aorta. An impeller is disposed within the narrower section of the pump-outlet tube and is configured to pump blood of the subject, through the blood-outlet openings, from the left ventricle into the aorta. Other applications are also described.

摘要: A circulatory assist apparatus comprises an inflatable pumping balloon having a proximal end joined to an elongated balloon catheter, the catheter having a distal end joined to the pumping balloon and a proximal end, separated from the distal end by a length sufficient to extend from within the circulatory lumen to the outside of a patient's body, for receiving positive and negative pressure pulses from a pump to inflate and deflate the pumping balloon; a proximal expandable frame comprising a distal portion of an elongated shaft surrounding the catheter; and a distal expandable frame. The distal end of the elongated shaft is abuttable against a stopping element surrounding the catheter as the shaft is advanced towards the inflatable pumping balloon, or is joined to the catheter in which case the proximal expandable frame is heat set to deploy spontaneously to a predetermined diameter upon release of the elongated shaft.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided herein for improving connections between a heart pump such a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and the heart and/or tubing such as a graft tube. An apical connector including a cylindrical housing and a ring support connected to the housing is described. The apical connector may include a sewing ring to be connected to the patient's heart and a spring positioned within the cylindrical housing to engage a portion of the pump and secure the apical connector to the pump. Alternatively, an apical connector may include an upper and lower housing with locks positioned in channels between the housings and may include a handle and a ring to cause the locks to engage a portion of the pump. A quick connect assembly is also described for efficiently connecting a graft tube to an outlet of a heart pump using a flange with through-holes and protrusions.

摘要: A system and method used to deliver a percutaneous ventricular assist device (pVAD) or other cardiac therapeutic device to a site within the heart, such as a site at the aortic valve. A flexible device is percutaneously introduced into a vasculature of a patient and positioned to run from a femoral vein, through the heart via a transseptal puncture, and to a femoral artery. The venous-side end of the flexible device is withdrawn out the venous vasculature superior to the heart, and a pVAD is secured to the flexible device. The pVAD is pushed in a distal direction while the arterial-side end of the flexible device is pulled in the proximal direction to advance the pVAD to the target site. A left ventricle redirector aids in orienting the pVAD and preventing migration of the flexible member towards delicate structures of the heart during advancement of the pVAD.

摘要: A method of delivering a medical device includes surrounding a deployment portion of the medical device with a sleeve that includes a sleeve wall and a securement portion positioned thereat and that is actuatable between secured and unsecured states, the sleeve configured to overlay the deployment portion to be delivered together with the deployment portion and to facilitate movement thereof through a delivery lumen during delivery of the medical device and configured to radially move between expanded and constrained configurations via actuation of the securement portion such that the sleeve is in the constrained configuration and the expanded configuration when the securement portion is in the secured and unsecured states respectively; inserting the deployment portion and sleeve together into a body lumen with the sleeve in the secured state; causing the sleeve to transition from the secured state to the unsecured state; and withdrawing the sleeve from the body lumen.
