摘要: Apparatus and methods are described including a ventricular assist device that includes an axial shaft and an impeller disposed on the axial shaft, the impeller being configured to pump blood. A frame is disposed around the impeller. The distal end of the axial shaft is configured to engage with a distal thrust bearing such as to prevent the axial shaft from undergoing axial motion in response to variations in the pressure gradient against which the impeller pumps blood. An impeller-stabilizing spring is disposed around the axial shaft between a distal end of the impeller and the thrust bearing, the impeller-stabilizing spring being configured to stabilize the distal end of the impeller. Other applications are also described.

摘要: A rotor for a pump, such as a blood pump, may include a hub configured to rotate around a central axis, and at least one rotor blade coupled to and extending away from an outer surface of the hub, the rotor blade comprising a medical-grade polyurethane, the rotor blade configured to have a crimped state and a running state. The medical-grade polyurethane may be configured for casting or injection molding, and upon curing, the medical-grade material advantageously has a shore A hardness of 90-100, or a shore B hardness of 35-55, and a Young's modulus of 60 MPa-250 MPa. When crimped, the rotor blades are compressed and exposed to strains of up to about 160% in a dry environment at temperatures of 20-25° C. When running, the rotor blades are expanded and exposed to strains of up to 10% in a wet environment at temperatures of 36-38° C.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are described including a blood pump that includes an impeller configured to be delivered through vasculature of a subject while the impeller is in a radially-constrained configuration. The impeller is configured to self-expand to a non-radially-constrained configuration, and to pump blood while in the non-radially-constrained configuration. A ratio between (a) a diameter of the impeller when the impeller is in its non-radially-constrained configuration at a location at which the diameter of the impeller is at its maximum and (b) a diameter of the impeller when the impeller is in its radially-constrained configuration is greater than 7:2. Other applications are also described.

摘要: The invention relates to a fluid pump, in particular to a liquid pump having a rotor with at last one rotor blade for conveying the fluid, the rotor being variable with respect to its diameter between a first, compressed state and a second expanded state. In order to produce a simple compressibility and expandability of the rotor of the pump, it is provided according to the invention that at least one rotor blade is deformable between a first state which it assumes in the compressed state of the rotor and a second state which it assumes in the expanded state of the rotor by means of a fluid counterpressure during a rotation of the rotor during pump operation.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are described for improving renal function of a patient, including mechanically occluding the patient's inferior vena cava downstream of the renal vein ostium to form an upstream region and a downstream region of the inferior vena cava, and mechanically pumping blood through the inferior vena cava from the upstream region to a discharge location in the downstream region while the inferior vena cava is occluded, wherein the blood remains in the inferior vena cava while being mechanically pumped. Other applications are also described.
