    摘要: A slab nozzle for use in a continuous slab casting installation is characterized by a specific geometry of the outer wall of a downstream portion thereof which is inserted in a slab mould cavity. The specific geometry promotes a “round-about” effect whereby converging opposite streams of molten metal flowing towards two opposite flanks of the slab nozzle are each preferentially deviated towards one side of the slab nozzle where they can freely flow through the narrow channels formed between the slab nozzle and the slab mould cavity wall without impinging with one another. This prolongs the service life of the slab nozzle by substantially reducing the erosion rate of the outer wall thereof.

    摘要: Provided is a refractory material having both excellent erosion/corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance, which has hardly been obtainable by conventional techniques, and a casting nozzle using the refractory material. The refractory material of the present invention contains: MgO in an amount of 40 mass % or more; a free carbon component in an amount of 4 to 30 mass %; and one or more selected from the group consisting of B2O3, P2O5, SiO2 and TiO2, in a total amount of 0.3 to 3 mass %, with the remainder being at least one other type of additional refractory component, wherein a void layer exists in an interface between a carbon-containing matrix microstructure residing at least on opposite sides of a maximum-size one of a plurality of MgO-containing particles in the refractory material, and the maximum-size MgO-containing particle, wherein a sum of respective thicknesses of the void layer at two positions on the opposite sides is 0.2 to 3.0% in terms of a ratio with respect to a particle size of the maximum-size MgO-containing particle, and wherein an inorganic compound comprised of MgO and the one or more selected from the group consisting of B2O3, P2O5, SiO2 and TiO2 exists in an entirety or a part of a surface of each of the plurality of MgO-containing particles.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method of producing an immersion nozzle for continuous casting, which comprises integrally molding a first zirconia-graphite compound applied to a powder-line portion of the nozzle, and a second compound applied to at least an inner hole portion of the nozzle. The second compound includes 10 mass % or more of clinker particles each containing CaO as a mineral phase, and the surface of at least a part of the clinker particles is subjected to an anti-hydration treatment, such as a heat treatment to be performed under a CO2 atmosphere to convert CaO to CaCO3. The method of the present invention can suppress volume expansion caused by the reaction between CaO and water released from resin added as binder, so as to prevent the occurrence of cracks during a burning process of the molded piece.

    摘要: Disclosed is an improved casting tip for a nozzle of a continuous caster, the tip designed for transferring molten metal from a molten metal reservoir to a continuously advancing mold as formed, for example, by twin belts, rolls or block casters for casting molten metal into solid form. The casting tip is comprised of a top wall, a bottom wall oppositely disposed from top wall, a first side wall, and a second side wall oppositely disposed from the first side wall, the first and second side walls joined to the top and bottom walls to form a passage therebetween having an entrance and an exit. The passage has a top wall inside surface having a first portion that first converges towards the bottom wall starting at the entrance and has a second portion that diverges from the bottom wall to the exit, the top wall first portion having a length less than the top wall second portion length. Further, the passage has a bottom wall inside surface having a first portion that first converges towards the top wall starting at the entrance and has a second portion that diverges from the top wall to the exit, the bottom wall first portion having a length less than the bottom wall second portion length. The top wall and bottom wall converge and diverge about substantially an equal amount from a center line from the entrance to the exit of the passage.
