摘要: An artificial or simulated skull for use as a medical training device includes a skull cap that can be secured to a skull base at an opening defined by the skull base. One or more vessels for holding fluid, such as simulated blood, may be secured or incorporated into the simulated skull. A trainee, such as a medical student, may perform a practice procedure on the simulated skull, such as a drilling procedure in which the trainee uses a surgical tool to create one or more burr holes in the skull cap before penetrating the vessel containing the simulated blood. Once the skull cap has been excessively damaged from use in one or more practice procedures, it may be replaced with a new skull cap that can be secured to the original skull base.

摘要: Described herein are anatomical models for medical training, surgical planning, or patient demonstration. The anatomical models include a replica of a target body part that may be altered, unfinished, or deformed so that an anatomical component may be attached thereto to complete the replica and provide visual training with respect to symmetry and other aspects of medical or surgical procedures. For example, the anatomical models may be altered, unfinished, or deformed to simulate a post-surgical deformity. Systems and methods including the anatomical models are also described herein.

The physical volume is configured to be at least partially removed by the surgical instrument such that the geometrical feature is configured to be exposed for providing visual feedback about an accuracy of the surgical plan and/or an accuracy of the surgical instrument in carrying out the surgical plan.

摘要: A surgeon training apparatus includes a cassette, which includes biological tissue repurposed into a form consistent with the anatomical configuration of abdominal hernias, affixed into an anatomically correct silicon framework which replicates the abdominal anatomy. The framework positions the cassette in an anatomically correct position within the abdominal cavity, enabling surgeons to train using a properly positioned representation of the target anatomy, thus requiring the surgeon to properly use surgical tools to correct the pathologic condition caused by the hernia. The cassette is formed by applying biologic tissue to a specially designed “plate,” which affixes the tissue block into the anatomic framework, and is adapted for connection to a grounding device so the surgeon can use cautery during the simulated hernia repair. The cassette can be positioned inside a manikin, and can be used to train surgeons to repair human hernias using multiple techniques, including robot assisted and laparoscopic methods.

摘要: A surgical simulator for surgical training is provided. The simulator includes a frame defining an enclosure and a simulated tissue model located inside the enclosure. The simulated tissue model is adapted for practicing a number of surgical procedures including but not limited to transanal excisions and transvaginal hysterectomies. The simulated tissue model includes one more components and is interchangeably connected to the frame with fasteners configured to pass through apertures in the frame to suspend the simulated tissue model within the frame. The enclosure of the frame is increasingly laterally constricted along the longitudinal axis to progressively increase the confinement of the components of the simulated tissue model.
