摘要: A write operation method for a phase change memory (PCM) is disclosed. The method includes when a PCM performs a write operation, generating a corresponding voltage pulse signal according to to-be-written data, and applying the voltage pulse signal to a phase change material included in a phase change storage unit corresponding to the to-be-written data and applying the voltage pulse signal to a voltage divider resistor serially connected to the phase change material; comparing voltage values at both ends of a sampling resistor with a threshold voltage to generate an indicator value; determining, according to the indicator value, whether data that is stored in the phase change storage unit and is corresponding to the indicator value is the same as the to-be-written data; and skipping writing if the same; or writing if different, thus reducing the delay time of writing data into the phase change storage unit.

摘要: When data is recorded on an optical disc, and stored for a long period of time, there is a need to periodically evaluate whether a quality of the recorded data is determined with time, or not. If the signal quality is lower than a given level as an evaluation result, a work for moving the data to a brand-new optical disc is required. However, in periodical inspection, if the number of optical discs is enormous, a large amount of time is required to evaluate all data recorded on the optical disc. In recording user data on the optical disc, a signal of a particular pattern having a lifetime shorter than a reference lifetime of the user data is recorded in a given area of the optical disc in advance, the particular pattern signal is reading at given time intervals, and processing on the user data is determined on the basis of the evaluation result of the signal quality.

摘要: A method and an apparatus for reading data from or writing data to an optical recording medium is described, the data being stored as marks having different lengths. Marks having a length below the limit of diffraction at a first wavelength are read or written with the first wavelength, whereas marks having a length above the limit of diffraction at the first wavelength are read or written with a second wavelength larger than the first wavelength.

摘要: A method for rating an information recording medium according to the present invention includes the steps of: receiving a digital read signal, which has been generated based on an analog read signal representing information that has been read from the information recording medium, and shaping the waveform of the digital read signal; subjecting the shaped digital read signal to maximum likelihood decoding, thereby generating a binarized signal showing a result of the maximum likelihood decoding; and calculating the quality of the digital read signal based on the shaped digital read signal and the binarized signal. If the quality of the read signal is calculated by a PRML method in which a number of zero-cross portions are included in a merging path of a minimum difference metric, the quality is calculated by using only a state transition pattern in which only one zero-cross portion is included in a merging path of a non-minimum difference metric.
