Some variations provide a process for producing a nanocellulose material, comprising: providing a biomass feedstock comprising a bleached or unbleached pulp material; fractionating the feedstock in the presence of an acid, a solvent for lignin, and water, to generate cellulose-rich solids and a liquid containing hemicellulose and lignin; and mechanically treating the cellulose-rich solids to form cellulose fibrils and/or cellulose crystals, thereby generating a nanocellulose material. The process is preferably co-located with, or adjacent to, a mill that generates the pulp material. There are several advantages of a bolt-on AVAP® nanocellulose plant to an existing pulp mill, as disclosed herein.

The invention relates to a method for treating starch in pulp, paper and board making processes, in which processes recycled fibre material is used as raw material wherein the recycled fibre material is pulped in a pulper and obtaining a pulp flow comprising an aqueous phase and at least recycled fibres and starch dispersed in the aqueous phase. The method comprising the following steps: - adding amylase enzyme inhibitor and/or at least one biocide to pulp flow or to an aqueous process flow comprising starch for preventing starch degradation, and - adding an amphoteric polymer obtained by copolymerisation of (meth)acrylamide with cationic and anionic monomers to pulp flow or to an aqueous process flow comprising starch for binding starch to the fibres.

The presently disclosed subject matter relates to an industrial system for processing various plant materials to produce marketable materials. Particularly, the system integrates subcritical water extraction technology and includes a pre-processing module and a two-stage extractor (processing module) with constant control of temperature, pressure, and/or residence time. In some embodiments, the final product of the disclosed system can include feedstock constituents for biofuel production (sugars and/or oil), biochar, raw materials for various industries (such as pulp for manufacturing paper or cellulose for use in various industries). The disclosed system can be modular or non-modular, stationary or mobile, and can include prefabricated elements with programmed automatic or manual operation so that it can be easily moved and/or assembled on site.

A method for recycling paper to produce a less white and clean office paper product for paper printing and writing, said method comprising the steps of : collecting waste papers; sorting said collected papers waste without the need to separate between the various paper grades; pressing said sorted recycled paper; pulping said sorted recycled paper by a pulper which contains water turns into a mixture; said pulper chops said sorted recycled paper into small pieces; heating said pulp mixture breaks said recycled paper down more quickly into tiny strands of cellulose or fibers to eventually, said sorted recycled paper turns into a pulp; sieving, said pulp is forced through sieves containing holes and slots of various shapes and sizes, said sieves remove small contaminants; cleaning, said pulp spinning around in large cone-shaped cylinders; heavy contaminants are thrown to the outside of the cone and fall through the bottom of the cylinder; lighter contaminants collect in the center of the cone and are removed; refining, said pulp is beaten to make said recycled fibers swell for papermaking; if said pulp contains any large bundles of fibers, said refining step separates said bundles into individual fibers; dewatering, said watery pulp enters a headbox at a paper machine, and then is sprayed in a continuous wide jet onto a huge flat wire sieve which is moving very quickly through said paper machine; on a sieve, water starts to drain from said pulp, and said recycled fibers quickly begin to bond together to form a watery sheet; said sheet moves rapidly through a series of felt-covered press rollers which squeeze out more water; said sheet, which now resembles paper, passes through a series of heated metal rollers which dry said paper`, said dried paper is wound into a giant roll and removed from the paper machine; the roll of said paper is cut into smaller rolls, or sometimes into sheets and made into said paper product.

The present invention is directed to articles of manufacture, including fibers and films, and methods of making thereof. In accordance with the present invention, the article includes a binder impregnated with or encapsulating a filler. The binder is a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), cellulose nanofibrils, or a combination of the PVOH and cellulose nanofibrils. The filler is deinking waste solids comprising ash and cellulose fines.
