A process of preparing a biodegradable plastic using a seaweed is disclosed. Said process comprises treating seaweed with an alkali to obtain alkali treated seaweed; treating the alkali treated seaweed with an acid to obtain alkali-acid treated seaweed; immersing the alkali-acid treated seaweed in an aqueous medium followed by boiling to obtain a clear solution; and casting the clear solution to obtain said biodegradable plastic.

Algal bio-adhesives consisting of algal biomass, crosslinking agents, and fillers are described as substitutes for formaldehyde based glue for making wood panels. Processes for preparing such DG based bio- adhesives and algal bio-adhesives are provided, comprising the steps of: combining DG biomass or algal material with a cross-linking agent and inorganic fillers to form a blend; micronisation or homogenisation of the blend to obtain powdery material; and mixing the powdery material with additional water to form a bio-adhesive.

Corn oil and corn meal obtained from corn are included in useful products. The corn oil is extracted from the corn to form the corn meal. The corn grain process generally includes the steps of cracking corn grain having a total oil content of from about 3 % by weight to about 30 % by weight and extracting a corn oil from the cracked corn grain. The corn oil is useful for making nutritionally enhanced edible oil or cooking oil, lubricants, biodiesel, fuel, cosmetics and oil-based or oil-containing chemical products. The extracted corn meal is useful for making enhanced animal feed rations, snack food, blended food products, cosmetics, and fermentation broth additive.
