The invention is directed to systems for papermaking comprising a first population of fibers dispersed in an aqueous solution and complexed with an activator, and a second population of composite additive particles bearing a tethering material, wherein the addition of the second population to the first population attaches the composite additive particles to the fibers. The invention also encompasses methods for manufacturing a paper product.

The present invention relates to a surface treatment and a method for its application for the introduction of a wide variety of differentiating properties to fibersin sliver form through a surface treatment of said fibers. The system can accommodate chemical processes, sonochemical processes, and acoustic cavitation processes whereby the fibers are speckled or plated with at least one predetermined compound in a liquid medium to impart at least one desired property to the fibers and for the orderly inclusion of such treated fibers in sliver form having such properties in yarns, woven, knit, or non-woven textiles.

A process in which an at least partially delignified pulp fiber web having a Kappa number of less than about 130 is treated with an aqueous endothermic fire retardant solution having a pH of about 10 or less. The treated pulp fiber web has a near neutral pH of from about 5 to about 9, and is treated with at least about 20 lbs of endothermic fire retardants per ton of the pulp fiber web, with at least about 5% of the total amount of endothermic fire retardants being added at a point prior to when the pulp fiber web is formed. Also a fire resistant pulp fiber web having a near neutral pH.
Abstract:
Metal nanoparticles were incorporated into wood. Ionic liquids were used to expand the wood cell wall structure for nanoparticle incorporation into the cell wall structure. Nanoparticles of elemental gold or silver were found to be effective surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) imaging contrast or sensing agents. Nanoparticles of elemental iron were found to be efficient microwave absorbers and caused localized heating for disrupting the integrity of the lignocellulosic matrix. Controls suggest that the localized heating around the iron nanoparticles reduces losses of cellulose in the form of water, volatiles and C0 2 . The ionic liquid is needed during the incorporation process at room temperature. The use of small amounts of ionic liquid combined with the absence of an ionic liquid purification step and a lower energy and water use are expected to reduce costs in an up-scaled pretreatment process.

Beschrieben werden wässrige Papierleimungsemulsionen für die Masse- und Oberflächenleimung mit einem Gehalt an Fettsäureanhydriden, wobei die Fettsäureanhydride von ungesättigten oder gesättigten Fettsäuren oder deren Mischungen mit Kettenlängen von C 12 -C 24 abgeleitet sind und unter 50°C flüssig sind. Gegebenenfalls enthalten die Papierleimungsemulsionen zusätzlich ein weiteres reaktives oder nicht -reaktives Leimungsmittel und/oder ein aluminiumionenhaltiges Fixiermitel. Die neuen-Emulsionen eignen sich zur Ausrüstung von Papier und Karton.

A building material for use in forming exterior surface coverings. According to a preferred embodiment, the building material consists of the combination of a paper material, bonding agent, and water. The building material can either be formed directly upon a substrate, such as a wall or ceiling, or otherwise formed as a sheet of material or molding that can thereafter be affixed to a given surface or substrate. The building materials can be customized to have a specific type of color, shape and texture, and can further be utilized in a wide variety of building applications.
