    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the determination of the number of events per unit length, for example the density of threads in a textile- or metal-weave sample, whereby a strip of the sample is mapped on a CCD array. The signal from the CCD array is subjected to a fourier transformation and the frequency with the highest amplitude is determined as the number of events required. From this figure the result can be converted into number of events per unit length by a microprocessor, which can advantageously also perform the fourier transform and is preferably directly displayed in digital form and/or fed to an external computer by means of an interface, for storage and further processing. The above method is very quick, simple and accurate and allows precise monitoring of such events with economic means.
