Abstract:
Bioengineered constructs are formed from cultured cells induced to synthesize and secrete endogenously produced extracellular matrix components without the requirement of exogenous matrix components or network support or scaffold members. The bioengineered constructs of the invention can be treated in various ways such that the cells of the bioengineered constructs can be devitalized and/or removed without compromising the structural integrity of the constructs. Moreover, the bioengineered constructs of the invention can be used in conjunction with biocompatible/bioremodelable solutions that allow for various geometric configurations of the constructs.
Abstract:
One aspect of the present invention relates to inhibitors of post-pro line protease enzymes, such as inhibitors of dipeptidyl peptidase IV, and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. Another aspect of the present invention relates to methods of using the inhibitors to inhibit a dipeptidyl peptidase IV. Yet another aspect of the present invention relates to methods for using the inhibitors in the manufacture of the medicament for inhibiting a post- pro line enzyme in vivo .
Abstract:
Mastopexy and breast reconstruction prostheses and implantation method that allow for radiographic imaging of the breast tissue. The prostheses are arcuate and elongate optionally meshed to conform with breast tissue when implanted. Prostheses are made from naturally occurring extracellular matrix, primarily collagen, that, allows for mammographic imaging without interference as is expected from synthetic materials.
Abstract:
The invention relates to compositions and methods useful for cell culture in which cell adherence and release of cultured cells can be performed in a temperature-responsive manner.
Abstract:
The method of the invention pertains to determining the signal transduction activity in a tissue section by immunohistochemistry techniques. The expression level of the receptor of interest is determined as well as the expression levels of one or more effector molecules of the receptor signal transduction pathway. Furthermore a combined ratio of expression levels of effector molecules in subcellular compartments with the receptor expression was found to have prognostic significance.
Abstract:
The invention further features novel methods and compositions for treating and preventing dry eye by administration of neurotransmitters and/or neuropeptides, optionally in formulation with various other agents, as well as kits for the use of such novel formulations and methods.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for treating blood coagulation in a mammal that has or is suspected of having septic shock syndrome. In one embodiment, the method includes administering to the mammal an effective amount of an antibody that binds tissue factor in a way that excludes Factor X (FX) binding. The invention has a wide range of useful applications including use to inhibit unwanted blood coagulation associated with sepsis.
Abstract:
Provided herein are methods and compositions for modulating the activity or level of a sirtuin, thereby treating or preventing obesity or an insulin resistance disorder, such as diabetes in a subject. Exemplary methods comprise contacting a cell with a sirtuin activating compound or an inhibitory compound to thereby increase or decrease fat accumulation, respectively.
Abstract:
This invention relates to use of proteins associated with chronic tissue damage, e.g., chronic dermal ulcers. The proteins identified are useful for clinical screening, diagnosis, prognosis, therapy, and prophylaxis, as well as for drug screening and drug development.
