Abstract:
The disclosure relates to an apparatus and associated method for concentration of polarizable molecules within a fluid medium. The apparatus comprising a structure defining a cavity, having a cross-sectional dimension of 200 nm or less; at least two translocation electrodes positioned relative to the structure to enable generation of a DC electric field passing through the cavity; and at least two trapping electrodes positioned relative to the structure to enable generation of a time-varying electric field proximal to the cavity inlet.
Abstract:
There is provided a method of using a device capable of controlled flight in a surrounding environment, the device comprising: lifting means for providing lift to the device; object-retaining means for holding an object to be affixed to a target site; and a dispensing assembly for dispensing an adhesive, wherein the method comprises: controlling the lifting means so as to controllably fly the device in the surrounding environment; and using the device to affix an object held by the object-retaining means to a target site in the surrounding environment by dispensing an adhesive from the dispensing assembly. Thus, an aerial device, for example a robotic device, may be used to fly to a desired location and affix an object at the desired location, by dispensing, ejecting or otherwise applying an adhesive.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for identifying a subject with a disease or condition characterised by the presence of unwanted cells as being likely to respond to treatment comprising administration of a KDAC6 inhibitor having the structure of Formula (I), wherein said method comprises determining whether the subject's unwanted cells have or are likely to have an increased dependency on autophagy for survival, and wherein Formula (I) comprises: (Formula (I)).
Abstract:
The invention relates to an MRI apparatus and a method of MRI involving the acquisition of a first and a second MRI image with mutually different orientations between the BO magnetic field and the object to be investigated. For instance, when imaging structures such as a tendon, due to the magic angle effect, this results in a change in image contrast. According to the invention, a coregistration can be performed between the first and the second MRI image. Moreover, the orientation of a structure within the object can be determined on the basis of the different orientations and the image intensity in the first and the second MRI image. The invention further discloses an apparatus for carrying out the method and a method of shimming the BO magnetic field of the apparatus.
Abstract:
A method of forming a part from sheet metal alloy is provided, for example, forming a part from aluminium alloy. The method comprises heating (A) the sheet metal alloy to a temperature at which solution heat treatment of the alloy occurs and so as to achieve solution heat treatment. The sheet is cooled (B) at least the critical cooling rate for the alloy and then placed between dies to form (C) it into or towards the part.
Abstract:
A signal processing method for estimating a frequency domain representation of signal from a series of samples distorted by an instrument function, the method comprising obtaining the series of samples; obtaining a set of coefficients that fit a set of basis functions to a complex exponential function wherein the set of basis functions comprises a plurality of basis functions each defined by a shifted version of the instrument function in a signal domain; estimating the frequency domain representation of the signal based on the series of samples and the coefficients. This is wherein the estimate of the instrument function is based on a characterisation of the instrument function in the frequency domain at frequencies associated with the complex exponential function.
Abstract:
A catalytic converter substrate comprising a plurality of micro-structured hollow ceramic tubes (20), each tube having an inside surface (30) and an outside surface (40), the inside surface having openings to micro-channels (55) distributed radially throughout the tube cross-section, said micro-channels extending from said openings in the inside surface towards the outside surface.
Abstract:
A system for collecting and characterising mobility data of a plurality of mobile wireless communications devices is disclosed, the system comprising: at least a first and a second detector having a respective first and second detection range and each arranged to detect entry and departure of a mobile wireless communications device into the detection range and store associated mobility data; and an aggregator arranged to aggregate mobility data received from the detectors.
Abstract:
A method of operating a drive train (110) for a hybrid electric vehicle, and a drive train, is disclosed. The drive train comprises an internal combustion engine (120), a first electrical machine (130) and electrical energy storage means (150). The internal combustion engine is coupled to drive the first electrical machine as a generator and the first electrical machine connected to supply electrical energy to the electrical energy storage means. The electrical energy storage means is arranged for supplying electrical energy to at least a second electrical machine (170) for driving wheels (180) of a hybrid electric vehicle. The method comprises the steps of sensing a parameter indicative of the voltage across the electrical energy storage means and, in response to this sensed parameter, controlling the internal combustion engine and/or the first electrical machine such that the first electrical machine operates to give rise to a voltage output of the first electrical machine such that the electrical energy storage means is charged without the need for power electronics.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an isolated specific binding member, such as an antibody or fragment thereof, which is capable of binding an antigen on oxidised low density lipoprotein (ox LDL). The antigen is capable of being bound by a member comprising one or more binding domains selected from domains comprising an amino acid sequence substantially as set out as GYAFTNYL, INPGSGGT and ARSFKWKFDY.
