The present invention relates to anticancer agents having peptides produced from silkworm cocoon as an effective component, more specifically to anticancer agents having peptides produced by hydrolysis of fibroin which is obtained by extracting the silk thread or waste silk thread of silkworm cocoon. According to the present invention, the anticancer peptides capable of inhibiting the damage of DNA from foreign carcinogens and improving the immune activity may be produced from the fibroin hydrolyate extracted from the silk thread or waste silk thread of silkworm cocoon. The anticancer peptides of the invention may be applied to medicine and functional food having anticancer activity, so that it can contribute to the development of medicines useful for prevention and treatment of cancer.

Transdermal estrogen/progestin absorption dosage units have been developed which comprise a backing layer, an adjoining polymer layer is an adhesive layer in which at least minimum effective dose of an estrogen is dissolved or microdispersed. Adhered to the polymer layer is an adhesive layer in which is dissolved and/or microdispersed at least minimum doses of progestin. Presently preferred is use of the natural estrogen, 17-beta-estradiol, or ethinyl estradiol or combinations thereof and of the progestin. The units have biologically acceptable adhesive and polymer layers. The adhesive layer can have dispersed one or more skin permeation enhancing agents. A separating layer can optionally be used in making the dosage units, which separate the adhesive and polymer layers, which permits estrogen transmission from the polymer layer during treatment. Dosage units are provided which transdermally deliver at least minimum daily doses of the estrogen and progestin for multiple days, such as for one week. The invention also provides a process of fertility control and estrogen replacement therapy using the novel dosage units. Also, the invention provides a fertility control system for fertility control using the novel dosage units.

The invention relates to hydrolysates of animal proteins of marine origin which have proven neuroprotective properties. These hydrolysates are prepared from a protein source selected from mackerel, salmon, green crab and white fish, and at least 70% (preferentially at least 80%) of the total weight of peptides of these hydrolysates correspond to peptides having a molecular weight of less than 1000 Da. The invention extends to the use of these hydrolysates for preparing compositions, such as food supplement, functional food and/or medicament compositions intended for oral administration, for preserving the health of the nervous tissue of an individual/patient and/or for reducing the risk factors associated with the development of neurodegenerative disorders related to ageing, preventing the appearance of these disorders and/or slowing down the development thereof. The invention also extends to food and/or pharmaceutical ingredients comprising a hydrolysate of animal proteins of marine origin in accordance with the invention and intended to be used for preparing these medicaments, food supplements and/or functional foods.
