The sorbent polymeric material has multiple aromatic rings and can be formed by initially preparing a precursor polymeric material from a polymerizable composition that contains a free-radically polymerizable spirobisindane monomer. The precursor polymeric material is subsequently treated with a sulfonyl-containing compound to form groups of formula -SO 2 R 5 where each R 5 is independently -NH 2 or -NR 6 -Q-NR 6 R 7 . Each R 6 is hydrogen or an alkyl. Each R 7 is hydrogen or -C(=NH)-NH 2 . Each Q is a single bond, alkylene, or a group of formula -(Q 1 -NR 6 ) x -Q 2 - where each Q 1 is an alkylene, each Q 2 is an alkylene, and x is in an integer in a range of 1 to 4.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Anlage zur trockenen Reinigung von Schadstoffen enthaltenden Abgasen eines Verbrennungsprozesses mittels granularen basischen Absorbenzien, die die Schadstoffe des Abgases aufnehmen. Außerdem betrifft die Erfindung ein Verfahren und eine Anlage zur Zuführung von Luft zu einem Verbrennungsprozess sowie zur trockenen Reinigung von Schadstoffen enthaltenden Abgasen des Verbrennungsprozesses mittels granularen basischen Absorbenzien, die die Schadstoffe des Abgases aufnehmen. Die Flussrichtung der durch die Anlage hindurch geleiteten Abgase wird wiederholt geändert, wobei die Abgase zunächst in einer ersten Flussrichtung einen ersten Absorptionsbereich I, anschließend einen Heizbereich und schließlich einen zweiten Absorptionsbereich II durchströmen und nach dem Umschalten die Abgase zunächst einen zweiten Absorptionsbereich II, anschließend den Heizbereich (23) und schließlich einen ersten Absorptionsbereich I durchströmen.

Materials which react with ("scavenge") sulfur compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans, are useful for limiting sulfur-induced corrosion. Surface-modified particles incorporating a hexahydrotriazine moiety are disclosed and used as sulfur scavengers. These surface-modified particles are used a filter media in fixed filter systems and as additives to fluids including sulfur compounds. The hexahydrotriazine moiety can react with sulfur compounds in such a manner as to bind sulfur atoms to the surface-modified particles, thus allowing removal of the sulfur atoms from fluids such as crude oil, natural gas, hydrocarbon combustion exhaust gases, sulfur polluted air and water. The surface-modified particles may, in general, be sized to allow separation of the particles from the process fluid by sedimentation, size-exclusion filtration or the like.

The device may be used in atmospheres containing various harmful gases, and may provide particularly useful improvements in NOx breakthrough times compared to a device containing only the first filter media particles or only the second filter media particles.
