Abstract: A power transmission system (100) for transmitting power from a crank shaft (112) of an engine (110) to a drive shaft (122) of a transmission gear box (120) via a clutch assembly (130) is disclosed. The clutch assembly facilitates co-rotation and relative rotation of the crank and drive shafts when engaged and not engaged, respectively. The system includes an electric motor (142) with an input/output shaft (148) and a gear assembly (146) coupled to the input/output and drive shafts. Rotation of the drive shaft is transmitted to rotation of the input/output shaft via the gear assembly and rotation of the input/output shaft is transmitted to rotation of the drive shaft via the gear assembly. The crank shaft drives the drive shaft when the clutch assembly is engaged and the electric motor drives the drive shaft when the clutch assembly is not engaged.
