    摘要: In the mounting of a membrane (13) in a fuel cell, there is a great risk of damages to the membrane and problems in the sealing between membrane and electrodes occur easily. These problems have been eliminated by in situ moulding of the membrane (13) in the cell. For a cell of DMFC type, a monomer such as acrylamide can be admixed with a sulfonic acid, preferably p-chlorobenzene sulfonic acid. As a cross-linking agent, N, N' -methylene-bis- acrylamide is suitably used in combination with N,N,N',N'- tetramethylene diamine and the setting reaction is initiated by a peroxo salt, suitably ammonium persulfate. As an alternative, the membrane (13) is moulded from a soda glass melt, after which the the soda is dissolved out by acid. The membrane (13) can also be moulded from water glass admixed with titanium dioxide and after the neutralisation of the mixture the water is removed, whereby the molecules arrange themselves to form a silica net, a silica gel.

    摘要: Gels, such as polyacrylamide gels, are provided that include linear polyacrylamide in the stacking gel. Native gels that include linear polyacrylamide in the stacker can be used to separate biomolecular complexes, such as protein complexes. Gel cassettes in which the gap width between front and back plates does not vary by more than 5% at the upper edge of the cassette are also provided. The gel cassettes can be used for electrophoretic separation of proteins and protein complexes on native gels, such as native gels that include linear polyacrylamide in the stacker. The native gels can have multiple wells for electrophoresing at least one sample and/or at least one molecular weight standard.

    摘要: A stable aqueous suspension of water-soluble polyacrylamide particles is in a saturated solution of an ammonium salt. The polyacrylamide particles are characterized by a particle size of about - 150 mesh, and preferably - 270 mesh, with - 400 mesh most preferred. The suspension is at least about 2.5 % by weight polyacrylamide. When the ammonium salt is ammonium sulfate, PAM concentrations as high as about 15 % by weight can be achieved while still being easily flowable. The suspension is made by stirring the small particle PAM into the saturated ammonium salt solution. The PAM can be quickly dissolved to form a less concentrated PAM solution by adding the suspension to water or to a dilute solution, which can include calcium salts or other soil enhancers.

    摘要: The present invention generally relates to thermally responsive polymer gel compositions that have enhanced temperature-dependent shrinking rates, increased strength, and improved pliability over previously known polymer compositions. In particular, the compositions are thermally responsive polymer gel compositions comprising a hydrophobic polymer matrix and an interpenetrating hydrophilic polymer network disposed therein, such that the resulting polymer gel composition has enhanced thermal responsiveness relative to the hydrophobic polymer matrix alone. This combination results in polymer gels having these improved properties. In a particular aspect, the hydrophobic polymer matrix is poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) ("PNIPAAM") and the interpenetrating polymer network is supplied by incorporation of an amount of protein, typically gelatin, within the PNIPAAM. The compositions of the invention find particular use in surgical applications for the repair of damaged tissues, e.g., blood vessels, neurons, and the like, and in temperature-dependent drug delivery systems.
