Abstract:
A system for assaying gold in a rock formation includes a transmitter and an acoustic sensor. The transmitter is configured to transmit a microwave pulse into the rock formation. The acoustic sensor is coupled to the rock formation and is configured to detect an acoustic wave emitted from the rock formation in response to receipt by the rock formation of the microwave pulse.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, admixtures, and methods are described including transponder devices (e.g., a palatable transponder, an edible transponder, a palatable radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, an edible RFID tag, etc.) for admixing with a food product.
Abstract:
A dermal or transdermal drug-delivery skin patch has a blood pressure sensor structurally integrated or built into it. The skin patch when attached to a skin portion of an individual determines a blood pressure of the individual and in response needle-lessly delivers a treatment drug to the individual if necessary.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for modifying a cosmetic product based on a microbe profile including an ingredient-microbe interaction dataset including information associated with interactions between reference cosmetic ingredients and types of reference microbes; and a computing device including circuitry configured to receive information associated with the microbe profile of an individual, receive information associated with an ingredient list of the cosmetic product, compare the microbe profile of the individual and the ingredient list of the cosmetic product to the ingredient-microbe interaction dataset, identify an interaction between at least one cosmetic ingredient in the ingredient list of the cosmetic product and at least one of the one or more types of microbes in the microbe profile of the individual, recommend a modification to the ingredient list in response to an identified interaction, and report to a user the recommended modification.
Abstract:
An apparatus for separating a mineral from a liquid including a housing and a fluid having a mineral bearing particle and contained within the housing. The apparatus further includes a generator configured to apply a radio-frequency electromagnetic field to the mineral bearing particle. The field produces a temperature increase within a portion of the mineral bearing particle and the mineral bearing particle transfers heat into the fluid, the heated fluid imposing motion-inducing forces on the particle.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides systems and methods for actively releasing food additives to deliver aromatic compounds to consumers during food or drink consumption. The food additives may be contained within an encapsulation layer. The encapsulation layer may be configured to release the food additives in response to being exposed to energy provided by an activation source proximate to the food additives. The activation source may be incorporated into, or connected with, an eating utensil or an oral implant. The activation source can be manually controlled by a consumer, can be controlled based on conditions near the food additives, or can be programmed with a release schedule that defines how and when food additives are to be released.
Abstract:
A system or device includes an evaluation module for automatically evaluating, remotely from a health care facility, a biological sample acquired from a subject for a presence or an absence of at least one pathogen in the biological sample; an electronic memory for queuing a first result of the evaluation for transmission to an off-site entity; and a reporting module for reporting a second result of the evaluation to the subject after queuing the first result of the evaluation for transmission.
Abstract:
Kits, devices, methods, and systems for assessing microbiota of a body surface and selecting treatment agents to apply to the body surface to modulate one or more types of microbes are described which include a kit including a plurality of treatment agents, a microbe sampling unit including a microbe-capture region, and an analyzer including a user interface, at least one sensor component, and a computing component with a processor and circuitry.

Abstract:
The redundancy in genomic sequence data is exploited by compressing sequence data in such a way as to allow direct computation on the compressed data using methods that are referred to herein as "compressive" algorithms. This approach reduces the task of computing on many similar genomes to only slightly more than that of operating on just one. In this approach, the redundancy among genomes is translated into computational acceleration by storing genomes in a compressed format that respects the structure of similarities and differences important to analysis. Specifically, these differences are the nucleotide substitutions, insertions, deletions, and rearrangements introduced by evolution. Once such a compressed library has been created, analysis is performed on it in time proportional to its compressed size, rather than having to reconstruct the full data set every time one wishes to query it.
