Abstract:
An apparatus includes a base having a first surface and an array of pillars. Each pillar of the array of pillars includes (i) a first end attached to the first surface of the base; (ii) a second end having an electric charge retention portion; (iii) a physical separation from adjacent pillars of the array of pillars; and (iv) an electrical conductor configured to electrically connect the electric charge retention portion with a bus structure. The bus structure is configured to addressably connect with the electrical conductor of each respective pillar of the array of pillars.
Abstract:
The present technology provides an edible composition including a plurality of dietary strands coated with a flavored coating; where the interior of each dietary strand comprises a fat, protein, carbohydrate, or a combination thereof; where the dietary strands are braided or woven together; and where the flavor of the interior of the dietary strand is distinct from the flavor of the flavored coating. Also provided are methods of providing an animal with nourishment, including providing the animal with any one of the edible compositions described herein. The animal may or may not be a human.
Abstract:
A method for enhancing the recovery of hydrocarbon deposit includes the step of sensing a material property of an underground volume. A three-dimensional map identifying the spatial variation in the sensed material property of the underground volume is generated. Propagating electromagnetic radiation is transmitted in the volume based on the map. The propagating electromagnetic radiation transmission is varied in at least one of frequency, polarization, wavelength, frequency, amplitude, mode, and phase in response to the variation in the material property of a region within the volume to which the propagating electromagnetic radiation is directed. Accordingly, the volume is heated in a spatially varying manner to heat material in the volume and thereby induce the flow of hydrocarbon deposits from the volume.
Abstract:
A system for detecting intruding viewers of a display and responding to an intrusion by editing content. The system includes an electronic media display, a sensor, and a processing circuit. The processing circuit is configured to obtain information from the sensor, determine a visibility envelope of the electronic media display device, analyze the information from the sensor to determine a presence of an intruder within the visibility envelope, distinguish the intruder from an authorized user, and edit any displayed content.
Abstract:
A field emission device is configured as a heat engine. In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises: a cathode, an anode, wherein the anode and cathode are receptive to a first power source to produce an anode electric potential higher than a cathode electric potential; a gate positioned between the anode and the cathode, the gate being receptive to a second power source to produce a gate electric potential selected to induce electron emission from the cathode for a first set of electrons having energies above a first threshold energy; a suppressor positioned between the gate and the anode; at least one region including gas located between the cathode and the anode; and at least one path traversable for a first portion of the first set of electrons, extending from the cathode to the anode.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, admixtures, and methods are described including transponder devices (e.g., a palatable transponder, an edible transponder, a palatable radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, an edible RFID tag, etc.) for admixing with a food product.
Abstract:
An apparatus comprising a device suitable for retention in a nasal passage of a ruminant, the device is arranged to pass a ruminant exhalation. The device includes a first structure configured to oxidize methane gas in the ruminant exhalation and to pass products of the oxidized methane gas toward a nasal passage exit.
Abstract:
Apparatus for use with substantially thermally sealed storage containers are described herein. These include an apparatus comprising a stored material module, a stabilizer unit, a stored material module cap and a central stabilizer unit. The apparatus also include a transportation stabilizer unit with dimensions corresponding to a substantially thermally sealed storage container with a flexible conduit. Methods and apparatus described herein relate to establishing and maintaining low gas pressure within a gas-sealed device fabricated from heat sensitive materials. Methods include transferring activated getters within the interior of an apparatus from regions fabricated from heat-resistant materials to interior regions of the gas-sealed device fabricated from heat-sensitive materials.
