    摘要: A method of reconstructing a3-dimensionalimage in a proton transmission computerised tomography (CT) apparatus is disclosed. The method comprises the creation of a reconstruction matrix. The matrix is created by directing a plurality of particles to traverse the object; and for each particle, measuring the trajectory and energy of each particle before and after it has traversed the object; for each particle, calculating the water-equivalent path length within the object; and for each particle, calculating the positions at which it entered and exited the object; and adding the water-equivalent path length, entry and exit positions to the reconstruction matrix. This procedure is repeated from a plurality of angular positions surrounding an object to be imaged. Then, a spatially varying 2- dimensional filter function is applied to the reconstruction matrix. Subsequently, a correction factor is applied to the filtered reconstruction matrix to at least partially correct for the finite extent of the matrix.

    摘要: A method is described for producing highly stable silver colloidal solu- tions by reducing silver nitrate with lithium citrate. In the method, the main steps consist of: (a) heating a first quantity of water to a first predetermined temperature; (b) adding a second quantity of silver nitrate to the water; (c) heat- ing the mixture to a second predetermined temperature; (d) adding a third quan- tity of an aqueous lithium citrate solution to the mixture; (e) maintaining the mix- ture at the second predetermined temperature for a predetermined time; and (f) cooling the mixture. The mixing process is accompanied by constant stirring. The colloid exhibits high light-scattering properties and intense SERS or SERRS spectra with low background fluorescence levels and a long shelf life, making it particularly suitable for Raman spectroscopy.

    摘要: An energy determining apparatus (100) for determining the individual energy of one or more particles of hadron radiation (40) has a main axis (101) for aligning with a general direction of incident particles (40). The apparatus comprises a two-dimensional array of scintillator elements (41) configured to emit a quantity of light in response to energy of one or more incident particles of hadron radiation (40) passing through, or along, that scintillator element (41). An array of detectors (44) convert the light from the scintillator elements (41) into electrical signals. A processor (115) is configured to determine a total quantity of light corresponding to energy of a single particle (40) based on outputs of the array of detectors (44).
