Abstract:
A pressure-distributing element for use as a wound-contacting element in connection with negative pressure therapy is provided. This pressure-distributing element is made of a non-absorbing elastomeric material having a shore-value of between 5 and 60 shore A. Further the element is provided with diffuse pathways having a size of between 0,5 and 10 mm s. Such an element will be flexible in use and would enable the user to retain control over the element during use. The element may comprise strands, beads, sheets, interconnected ring-elements and elements having cavities and walls. Further it may comprise combinations thereof. A system for use in connection with NPWT is further provided. This system comprises a pump, a canister an enclosure for the wound and a pressure-distributing element. A method of use is also provided.
Abstract:
System for draining fluid from a wound, which system comprises an enclosure for enclosing the wound, a drainage conduit (104) for connecting a wound site within the enclosure to a suction source, a pressure communication conduit (102) providing a communication between the wound site and a pressure sensing element. The drainage conduit (104) and the pressure communication conduit (102) extend coaxially, so that one of the conduits is in the form of an annular passage surrounding the other conduit.
Abstract:
System for draining fluid from a wound site at a skin surface of a living being. The system comprises a suction source, a drainage tube for conveying wound exudate away from a wound at the wound site, the drainage tube being in fluid communication with the suction source at one end thereof and with the wound site at the other end thereof, and an attachment device for connecting the drainage tube to the wound site, the attachment device forming or being part of a sealing enclosure at the wound site. The attachment device comprises a stationary part arranged to be fixed to the living being's body, a rotary part interconnecting the tube and the stationary part, the rotary part being rotatable relative to the stationary part.
Abstract:
An absorbent wound care device comprising a wound contacting layer comprising an absorbent non-woven bi-component staple fibre material, said staple fibre material comprising fibres having at least one outside portion of highly hydrophilic material and least one inner core of a low- absorbing material, wherein the staple fibre material comprising fibres having at least one outside portion of highly hydrophilic material and least one inner core of a low-absorbing material constitutes above 50% of the fibrous material and wherein the absorbent material consists of mechanically intertwined fibres enables the use of an absorbent material comprising only fibres having at least one outside portion of highly hydrophilic material without having to rely on the presence of wicking fibres, which material is capable of absorbing liquid parts and slough from wound exudates without giving rise to gel blocking and also reduces of the risk of maceration due to wicking of moisture laterally in the plane of the wound to the neighbouring skin.
Abstract:
A pump for pumping fluid matter from a treatment site in or on a living being comprises three compartments. A motor-driven pumping element is provided for generating a negative pressure within a wound cover at or near the treatment site, and a motor for providing a driving force to the pumping element is provided in the a first one of the compartments. The pumping element is comprised in a second compartment, and a container for collecting liquid pumped from the treatment site is comprised or integrated in a third compartment. The second compartment is detachably connected to the first and/or third compartment, and the third compartment is detachably connected to the first and/or the second compartment.
Abstract:
A wound dressing comprising a backing layer and an absorbent layer, wherein the absorbent layer comprises a wound facing surface and a non-wound facing surface, said absorbent layer comprises discrete foam pads covering at least 50% of the wound facing surface of the absorbent layer and wherein the non- wound facing surface of the foam pads are attached to the backing layer. The structure of the dressing renders it possible for the foam to expand during wetting without changing the external dimensions of the absorbent layer substantially.
Abstract:
An absorbent fibrous material comprising fibers prepared by melt spinning, solvent spinning, dry spinning or electro spinning of a polymer composition having a water absorption capacity of at least 10g/g polymer composition and comprising a thermoplastic hydrophilic block copolymer as well as wound dressings comprising such absorbent fibrous material.
Abstract:
A wound dressing comprising a web of gel-forming fibers or fibers soluble in wound exudates, attached to a reinforcing layer wherein the density of the web is in the range of 5-60 g/m 2 . The dressing may serve as a wound-contacting layer, providing moist wound healing combined with easy, non-traumatic removal from the wound site. The dressing may further comprise one or more active ingredients.

Abstract:
A suction system for removal of exudate from a wound comprises a wound cover which is attachable to a wound circumference of a living being thereby to form an enclosure, and a pump in fluid communication with the enclosure to provide a pressure difference between a negative pressure in the enclosure and an air pressure of an ambient space. A deflectable member is arranged such with respect to the enclosure that the pressure difference may cause deflection of the deflectable member, and a pressure sensing device is located outside the enclosure and arranged to provide a signal in response to the pressure or the deflection of the deflectable member. The deflectable member forms an essentially air tight barrier between the sensor and the enclosure.
