It is provided to form a substantially cylindrical carcass sleeve (24), comprising at least one carcass ply (3), formed by laying consecutively adjacent strip-like elements (29) one after the other around the circumferential extension of a substantially cylindrical deposition surface (10a). Circumferentially consecutive strip-like elements (29) are laid one after the other to form overlap zones (30) along respective longitudinal edges (29a, 29b) superimposed on each other. Each overlap zone (30) has, along a longitudinal extension thereof, terminal sections (32) that are laterally opposite with respect to an intermediate section (31). The intermediate section (31) of each overlap zone (30) has greater width than the width of the terminal sections (32).

A process for depositing an annular reinforcing element (5) on an annular anchoring structure (10) of a tyre for vehicle wheels. The annular anchoring structure (10) comprises at least one substantially circumferential annular insert (11) with which at least one filling insert (12) is associated. The process comprises the steps of: loading the annular anchoring structure (10) onto a service platform (105); - associating the annular reinforcing element (5) with an annular portion of a side surface (12a) of the filling insert (12) in a radially outer position with respect to the substantially circumferential annular insert (11), so as to form a reinforced annular anchoring structure (15); - unloading the reinforced annular anchoring structure (15) from the service platform (105). The reinforced anchoring structure (105) thus obtained can be used in building a carcass structure in the manufacturing of tyres for vehicles.
