Abstract:
A torque adjusting mechanical assembly is described. A first end of flexible element is fixed with upper element and a second end is engaged with a rack connected with first end of resilient means and the second end of the resilient means is fixed with the lower element enabling a connection which is enabled to store energy in the resilient means when there is an angular displacement between the upper element and the lower element. The outer end of rack makes the flexible element to pull when upper element is deflected from an initial position which store the energy in resilient mean wherein such stored energy provides a restoring torque which enables the upper element and lower element to restore to the initial position. Angular adjustment is enabled to adjust the torque angle and the radial adjustment is enabled to adjust the effective amount of torque to be delivered.

A rehabilitation system that combines robotics and interactive gaming to facilitate performance of task- specific, repetitive, upper extremity/hand motor tasks, to enable individuals undergoing rehabilitation to improve the performance of coordinated movements of the forearm and hand is disclosed. More specifically, the rehabilitation system includes a two degree-of -freedom (DOF) robotic, upper limb rehabilitation system and interactive gaming hardware that is coupled to a computer, to provide a virtual reality- like environment.

A cleansing device for mammalian skin includes a cleansing head having a plurality of elastomeric cleansing features extending away from a first surface of the cleansing head. The cleansing head is attached to a handle. The cleansing device includes an actuator coupled to a rotating drive shaft and adapted to apply oscillating movement to one or more cleansing head sections of the cleansing head at a frequency of about 5 Hz to 30 Hz.

A device for volitional swallowing with a substitute sensory system comprises a band 101 wrapped around the neck with a vibrator 102 positioned over the larynx. Upon activation by a button 103 on a spoon 104 held by an operator, such as the subject 105, the vibrator 102 moves and vibrates the larynx. The patient 105 initiates the sensory stimulation immediately prior to the patient's own initiation of a swallow by viewing on a display screen 106 a movement feedback signal 107, possibly from a piezo-electric sensor 108 also contained in the band 101 which will also be displayed on the display screen 106. The signal 109 from the switch device initiating sensory stimulation will be presented on the same display screen 106 for the patient 105 and trainer to observe when the button or switch 103 is activated for sensory stimulation in relation to the onset of the swallow.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for therapeutic and/or prophylactic massage, in particular massage of mammalian eyelids, having a body housing a heater in thermal communication with a massaging bobbin, the bobbin having a plurality of massaging elements extending therefrom. In use, the bobbin heats the eyelid and rotates such that a massaging force is exerted on the eyelid perpendicular to the lash line. This force can be used to express material from blocked sebaceous glands of the mammalian eyelid. As such, also disclosed herein is a method for treating disorders of the mammalian eyelid, such as inflammation, using the device of the invention.
