Provided herein is a liquid-filled, non-reclosable tetrahedral or pillow-shaped packaging container having a longitudinal fin seal and a pair of transverse seals. In the case of tetrahedral packages, the transverse seals are perpendicular to one another. Also provided herein is an apparatus for the formation of such fin seals as part of a continuous packaging and filling operation. A third aspect of the apparatus of the present disclosure is the development of a heated jaw that exhibits consistent heating across the jaw face. Yet another feature of the apparatus of the present disclosure is provided in a modified, closed-loop electrical system for real-time monitoring and adjustment of the temperatures of the heated jaws, as they are moving.

The invention relates to a method for producing a gastroretentive tube system by forming tubular bags in a production station. The contents of the system are an amount of a substrate that can be dosed and that produces gas and/or swells in contact with a liquid. The tubular bag is simultaneously filled with contents during the production in the production station. The method is characterised by a sequence of working steps. In the first working step, a foil string (4) being a source material from a store (2) is guided over a flat funnel, laterally on the outside and on the rectangular surfaces of the funnel (5). In the second working step, the lateral areas of the foil string are welded together to form the flat tube when they leave the narrow component of the funnel in the direction of the production passage. In the third working step, the discharge side of the tube is provided with a first transverse sealing seam (22) to form a tube section and in the fourth working step, said tube section is filled with the exactly dosed amount of contents. In the fifth working step, the tube section is sealed with a second transverse sealing seam (21) and in the last working step, the filled and sealed tubular bag (11) is separated from the following bags.
